Re: How to install Wine on Mint 21.1

karichen, thank you for the detailed instructions. They seem to have worked for me.
One question, after the wine-installer command and agreeing to the install, the results in the terminal lists additional suggested software. Do you have any input on installing these additions?

Re: ChatGPT

When I am problem solving, I use different resources. I use saved snippets of information, books on hand, YouTube videos, bookmarked sites that offer clear explanations, the Arch Wiki, and Google search (including LM forums). Yesterday, I used ChatGPT to solve a problem with my dual boot system and ...

Re: ChatGPT

I am surprised by the comments here. People of talent seem to be acting like nervous nellies. ChatGPT is a tool, new and raw and unfinished. Nothing more. Like everything else in the digital world, it can be a benefit or a curse.

Re: What are we reading today?

I just finished Fairy Tale by Stephan King. I enjoyed it. Stephan King has better (and worse) books. I kept thinking of Heinlein's Glory Road while reading it.

Re: Mint 21--How is it working for you?

I switched to Mint 21 as my everyday distro about a month ago. I've tweaked this and that, and with few exceptions it all just worked. A few days ago, I tried pairing my Sony bluetooth headphones. Nothing I did worked. Then, I went back to Mint 20.3 and tried the headphones again, and yes they worke...

Re: What can we do to keep New users on Linux?

"The forum must be open and responsive to newcomers at all levels." - all41 Amen. The Mint forum does a very good job of this, and it is vital to retaining new people. I tip my hat to those who contribute here. I understand that some questions asked are frustrating because of several issue...

Re: Mint 21--How is it working for you?

I have LM21 on a multi-boot system on my desktop pc. My initial impression was positive, but I thought it had glitches (an upper level technical term). No real problem. I saw today that there were multiple updates. I installed them. I will keep testing my install of LM21 until I am satisfied. Then, ...

Re: Best Flac Ripping Software

I'll tell you what I use. I use Asunder CD Ripper for the quickest and easiest. It will allow you to create Flac level 8, but a quick read on the net suggests that level 5 is the place to be (8 gives more compression, not better sound, at the expense of your time)., Asunder will also rip to multiple...

Re: Shingrix Shingles Vaccine

My mother developed shingles in her fifties. It hit her hard. My second Shingrix shot was surprising to me. I had never had a tough reaction to a vaccine before. My second and third covid shots were also like a three day flu. This could be a sign that my immune system is working well, or it could ju...

Re: latest version of mint does not come with the latest version of libreoffice

I think the answers that have been given are valid. Mint isn't a rolling release and stability is a high priority. I also think your question has merit. Why does an 0S not ship with a current office suite and a current web browser that it keeps current? To me those are the most important apps on my ...

Re: Linux Mint can't span an image across two monitors

To make it work on my dual monitor setup (portrait & landscape), I resize my wallpapers to the total width of both monitors by(x) the height of the tallest monitor.

I'm going to check out SuperPaper thanks to kato181's suggestion.

I used to routinely drink when playing tournament poker. I quit drinking while playing to keep a closer eye on my weight.

Oddly enough, my results were better when drinking.

Re: Any Baseball fans ?

I like to watch baseball live, but don't live close to any of the MLB teams.

Watching the game on TV is infuriating. The camera man believes only the pitcher and the batter are in the games, and the constant blather of the announcers is like chalk on a blackboard to me. Sigh!

Re: Are there any Ukrainian Linux Mint users?

Moem,

I note that Switzerland has joined in the effort against the Ukrainian invasion. This must be an extraordinary event for the most neutral of nations to change its long standing policies.

Perhaps other policies need to be modified in this instance.

With all due respect,

Thanks to tenfoot, the last thing I listened to was "Rhapsody in Blue". I tip my hat.

Prior to that, today I've been listening to Steve Winwood et al. in the Spencer Davis Group album "Autumn '66".

It was during the period of Unity and Gnome3 that I settled on Linux Mint.

Whatever possessed designers to think that we need the same interface for phones, tablets, and computers?
