Re: The ONLY reason why I am using Cinnamon vs XFCE

@MDM, hey there, that is not what I am looking for. I know in xfce you can customize it to be able to run from click.

@MDM and @richyrich
I personally despise using the mouse, and I love just sticking to the keyboard as much as I can.
And that Nemo prompt makes my life much easier!

Re: The ONLY reason why I am using Cinnamon vs XFCE

Aahh I realized that what I need is to replace the file manager.

It's a matter of Thunar vs Nemo.

Not XFCE vs Cinnamon

I just installed Nemo on my XFCE desktop, and the prompt I desire is now working :)

The ONLY reason why I am using Cinnamon vs XFCE

I really like Cinnamon, but it's still too slow for me, it can get laggy sometimes. Sure it's only milliseconds, but I FEEL those milliseconds. I like XFCE much more, it's very simple and snappy. However, the only thing that is keeping me from it is the way to open scripts/files. In Cinnamon, when y...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

I see! Surprisingly, installing the 352 driver did the trick! After a good 10 hours of testing, and running moderately heavy processes, the menu does not seem to lag at an unreasonable speed. However, I am getting much more screen tearing from this driver than the 349. But to be honest, the lag anno...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

I do have the mamarley PPA "enabled" boxes checked off, but it still did not show up in my software manager. After trying it out with the new driver, it seems to making a huge difference. But maybe it is because I rebooted (it always used to be fast and snappy after a fresh reboot, but gets slower a...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

Thanks for the heads up Pjotr! Is there any way I can get a notification if there is ever a newer update? Since it's from a different PPA, it doesn't show up in my Update Manager. Also, which do you recommend for a casual user? nvidia-352 nvidia-352-dev nvidia-352-uvm The pessimist in me doesn't bel...

Running

Code: Select all

inxi -G | grep Renderer
I get:
GLX Renderer: GeForce GTX 970/PCIe/SSE2 GLX Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 349.16
Pjotr, I installed my driver using your method you suggested in the past :D

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

I am running Linux Mint 17, Cinnamon 2.4.8, and the problem is still occurring for me :(

I'm glad I came across this post, I thought I was crazy.

I have a pretty decent setup, including a GTX 970, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to remedy this horrible lag?

Adjust window size/position w/ the command line? (Cinnamon)

I really like xdotool, but it conflicts with Cinnamon's awesome snapping/tiling feature. If I run the following command, it does not work if the current window is snapped to a corner/side/fullscreen. xdotool getactivewindow windowsize 500 1080 windowmove 1420 0 If it is NOT snapped, it works. My mai...

Any reason why this happens?

I've realized it happens a lot when I open videos with vlc in fullscreen mode

I just did a reboot, and to compare, this is how it looks like regularly without falling into that weird mode

Re: How can I make Cinnamon as fast as possibe?

Maybe I'm calling the name incorrectly. Please see the attached pics. Now that I think about it, it's probably Nemo, not Cinnamon. It starts using different icons and the windows become simpler. Even after the kernel and graphics card update, my Cinnamon (or Nemo) ends up falling into this mode afte...

Re: How can I make Cinnamon as fast as possibe?

Pjotr, I just did as you suggested, and I ran a stress test, and I can undoubtedly conclude that your method worked! Thank you very much, my system feels much faster now!! So far, I only updated the kernel and the graphics driver, and it is sufficient difference for me already. The speed hacks looke...

Re: How can I make Cinnamon as fast as possibe?

Thank you Pjotr, I will let you know as soon as I make these changes. My system runs ok on reboot, but it starts to get extremely laggy after I run ImageMagick, creating about 300+ 1920x1080 images. Cinnamon is really slow, even AFTER the images have been rendered and ImageMagick is no longer runnin...

How can I make Cinnamon as fast as possibe?

Hello, I tried all the desktops Mint has to offer multiple times, and I believe I am just destined to be with Cinnamon. The only reason I stray away from Cinnamon is because it starts getting really slow after rendering multiple images with ImageMagick. (Maybe someone can help me with that instead, ...

Xmodmap unlisted characters. Is there a way to add them?

I would like to type some specific characters after using xmodmap to map them. For example, the ⅒ character (Numeric value: 0x2152 ). I would like to change a keyboard button to type ⅒ like so xmodmap -e "keycode 56 = 0x2152" #Would like it to type "⅒" However, this does not work. An example using t...
