Re: HPLIP toolbox not available in LMDE 2?

but I thought LMDE used the Debian repos. Yes, that's what I thought as well. Anyway, you can have a look at my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list bellow: deb http://mirrors.fe.up.pt/linuxmint-packages betsy main upstream import deb ftp://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian/ jessie mai...

Re: HPLIP toolbox not available in LMDE 2?

I have a few of the HPLIP packages installed in my machine (hplip, hplip-data and hplip-gui). I do however also have the Debian stable repositories enable in my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ folder-files. I believe this is the default for an out-of-the-box LMDE but I might be wrong. I am actually under t...

stardict-gnome and stardict-gtk - What is the difference?

Hi everyone, I want to install stardict and I noticed that regarding the interface, amongst others, there is a "-gnome" package and a "-gtk" package. Both packages are, at the moment of this writing, at version 3.0.1-9.2 The descriptions for each are almost 100% identical and bot...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Stable (For Those Running This Setup)

Well, seems like this thread is too old to be resurrected but it still looks to me as the proper place to post this. So, a couple years ago (around the time this thread died I guess) I was tracking stable (you can see the setup I had then clicking here ). But in the longer run, the recursive depende...

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

I'd post this in the "UPDATE PACK 7 FEEDBACK" but it's locked since Sept 18, allegedly because it was going to latest. But it wasn't in latest yesterday... Anyway, just a little feedback here: I switched to incoming yesterday, started the upgrade and finished today (a lot to download). The...

Re: Is this distro 'free' software ?

(...) Just because a Linux distro mentions GNU on it doesn't mean it's supported by the FSF. I'm afraid the way that was phrased might be a bit misleading. "Linux distros" are actually "GNU distros with a Linux kernel". A quote from GNU's frontpage puts it clearer: The GNU Proje...

Re: how to fix USB hotplug automount fail? (besides reboot)

Ha, my first laptop (and my ever first machine running Linux too!) was a Clevo. As a sidenote, another "source" name for them is Kapok. Anything that you find for a Kapok that has the same model name as your Clevo, you can bet is the exact same machine. Any other brand name/model they migh...

Re: LMDE believes disk is full when it isn't

I don't remember now if that graphical application allows it, but you could try "digging in" down the subfolders til you pin down the concerning file...? Or run, in a terminal: find $HOME -size +10G Which would look for files bigger than 10GB in your home folder. You can change your file-s...

Re: summarizing LMDE repositories / software-sources

Sorry for the delay in replying. 1. mint repository is designed for both main and lmde version. on lmde backport isn't used at all. it listed there but it doesnt have any package inside it. on main edition it is used to backport some packages from new mint to an older one. for an instance, by defaul...

Re: Can't Update

I am also tracking stable (at least til LMDE's UP7 gets to incoming) and doing that got me some 550+ new packages. Got some trouble with, if I remember correctly, 14 packages (and hence their dependants) for saying "No" to all packages that apt-listbugs reported as having some sort of... b...

Re: summarizing LMDE repositories / software-sources explain

Thanks for this thread, which raises information which (if correct :-) really should (IMHO) be documented elsewhere. (If this is already documented, please post a link on this thread!) For now, I'd just like to update jdackle's previous summary for the benefit of myself and others who may have inte...

Yeah, I concluded UP7 will still take a while to come up, after I switched to incoming and checked for new packages...

Thanks for the followup!

Re: I need LMDE repositories / software-sources explained!

So, even though Mint main/upstream/import components are not strictly equivalent to Debian main/contrib/non-free, they roughly follow the same kind of rational. That's good enough information for me! Thank you kurotsugi! I'm still not sure where does Mint backport backports from and romeo looks a bi...

Re: I need LMDE repositories / software-sources explained!

Wait... would the following be correct: Mint main <=> Debian main Mint upstream <=> Debian contrib Mint import <=> Debian non-free Mint backport <=> Debian backport Mint incoming <=> Debian testing Mint romeo <=> Debian sid (unstable) :?: That would be ridiculously simple! And oddly confusing for th...

I can give you no definitive answers but I can try and throw some hints at you. :P The first hint would be for you to post what laptop (brand and model) you have, as several of those machines have specific issues and specific sollutions. ⋅ hotplugged USB drives no longer automount (...

Re: login with password

You can do better actually! On XFCE, you can use Applications Menu -> Settings -> Screensaver and just UNcheck the "Lock screen after" checkbox at the bottom. Your screensaver will still be active (a lot more for you to customize, if you want), blanking the screen, but no password will be ...

I need LMDE repositories / software-sources explained!

Hello everyone, I'm not new to Linux (been using it for over 10 years now), Ubuntu nor Debian (amongst other distros), but I am new to Mint and started out with LMDE. I understand Debian's stable, testing and unstable releases. But I'm having a bit of trouble understanding exactly what the Software ...
