Re: Mint to wired connection to XP to wireless internet

An altenative would be researching what type of wireless card you have and then downloading the packages you need, putting them on a flash drive, transfer them over and then install them via the terminal on the linux box.

Re: desktop freeze when attaching/detaching external monitor

This happened to me too. I solve the problem by hitting the key combination ctrl+alt+backspace and then removing/plugging in the monitor cable while the computer goes back to the login screen. Then i just log back in and everything is ok.

Re: Displaying incorrect resolution

open a terminal and type 'sudo apt-get install envyng-core'
then follow the onscreen steps to make sure that you have the most recent driver installed for your graphics card.
reboot your computer and let me know what happens.

Re: Displaying incorrect resolution

Hey!

I just got a new monitor too and I had a heck of a time trying to get it to display at full resolution. The first step would be to make sure that your graphics drivers are updated. Do you have an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card?

Re: Authentication required to restart

Go to Authorisations in the MintMenu and make sure that you have granted yourself authorisation to reboot and shut down the computer. This is located under the section "power-management".

Install envyng from synaptic.
After this is completed try running "envyng -t" in the terminal and try updating your ati driver. Hope this helps

I appreciate the response. I found the details online and then i added them to xorg.conf. this caused mint to enter low graphics mode at 800x600.

Re: MINT ON A SONY VAIO FW SERIES

If you cant get the screen res to the desired level try using ENVY NG to install the driver

sudo apt-get install envyng-core

then run it in a terminal with "envyng -t"

follow the terminal instructions to install the compatible driver. hope this helps
