Re: ISO Images Failing Authenticity Checks

Fellas, Any one who is this invested in creating a nice product to compete with Windows 10, should also create a 100% foolproof script to download the ISO, do all the checks, and comeback with a "Finished" notification, on it's own. Perhaps with an interim question about where to install, it can do...

Re: Slow Boot w/errors

Check your boot order in the bios, make sure USB is last, and do not put a usb in the slot while booting, unless of course you are installing Linux

Re: Available kernel update doesn't install with aptitude

Likely explanation: You do not have a kernel meta-package installed - for some reason the LM 19.x installation images are configured not to install one - and thus there is in fact nothing to upgrade (the kernel packages themselves do not receive upgrades, they are separate installs so you can insta...

My /boot is 5gb, had the extra to use. using 85mb currently. I made sure uninstalled all unnecessary kernels leaving current kernel and 2 others just in case something messes up on me.

Re: Linux Mint starts/boots very slowly

I recall the days when booting my windows computer I would cook some eggs, toast and coffee only to sit down and wait for it to finish booting. That why i am happy about the 1 minute boot. Check your bios and make sure the hard drive is the first in line to boot from. disable USB boot device. also C...

Re: Linux Mint starts/boots very slowly

Not sure why everyone is so impatient for their system to boot. mine take 1 minute 8 seconds using a SSHD ( Hybrid hd). 1 minute is not long at all. want faster then just suspend the computer, it sleeps until you press a button and boom its on almost instant (a 2 or 3 seconds for internet to reconne...

Re: are you still supposed to make a swap partition?

A Swap file depends on how much RAM you have installed,if less than 4gb RAM would be a good idea to have a /swap file at least double the size of your physical memory.

I have 8gb and use no /swap, no issues.

Re: How is linux kernel 5 on linux mint?

I'm thinking in using it on my lm19.1 but I want to know from you guys if it's stable, better performance, old bugs fixed, etc... as stated above Kernels are hardware dependent, but that does not it will not work. If you decide to try 5.0 and you start to have problems you can always go back to the...

Re: Xed won't open certain files

Hello, smgordon1259. LibreOffice Writer is really more than overkill if used in order to edit pure text files. Moreover the default file type preferred by Libre Office Writer is not pure text, but its own open document format. In case you save e.g. a shell script as an open document file by acciden...

Re: Will not shutdown or restart

linux OSs will never ask for reboot...this is NOT windows...it lets you reboot when YOU want to, not when IT wants to...that way it does not interfere with your work and annoy you by being "in your face"...linux assumes you do not need a "nanny"...DAMIEN An OS does not have to be 'Windows' and stil...
