Re: Dell Laptop rtl8821ce connect problem

Try #6 here: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/realtek.html#ID6 If that doesn't solve it, try the 5.13 kernel. Thanks -- that should do the trick: apparently the driver isn't signed properly. This will probably be fixed in the near future. In this case: the user is dual-booting Windows 10...

Re: root partition short on space

Hi Mike, did you check the Timeshift configuration? The default config saves to the / partition and should be changed to either /home or a separate partition. BINGO No: I had not made this correction. I have some screenshots here that show: when I deleted snaps from TimeShift something like 18GB wa...

thanks for the reply. Partitions: Yes: as follows: 100MB UEFI; 34GB root; 24GB swap; 840GB /home I could simple install MINT 20.2 for this friend. his system is prompting him to do the 20.2 upgrade. I asked him to hold off on that as he may not have enough free space in his root partition for the u...

Re: LMDE 5

My guess is we'll be able to get Debian 11 + non-free before we can get LMDE/5. This is what happened to me last time; I'm still running straight Debian 10.4 as a result. I had to use the Main Edition on a budget build that I did for a buddy: That build used a Ryzen 3 with integrated graphics and ne...

Re: SHA256 sums did not match.

I ran into this once all I did was chuck the bad download and get a new copy from another mirror. the 2d try checked perfect Don't skip the SHA256 check! we should put together a bit of a bash script to make the checking easy-peasey. I might do that on my next download if somebody doesn't beat me to...

Re: RYZEN level 3

the USB ports on the front panel are now USB3. it's unclear if running USB 2 devices on a USB 3 bus slows the bus down. maybe I can find a way to test this. It won't do, don't worry about that. looks like you're right: I looked up info on the USB 3 pin-out. if what i found is right the USB3 port ha...

Re: RYZEN level 3

It has been adequate until recently: now there is trouble with the power-up sequence: pressing the start switch, he says is "iffy": requires multiple tries to get it to POST. The shutdown ( holding in the power switch ) he says -- works OK. So, it's likely not the switch, but, I'm thinkin...

Re: RYZEN level 3 update

Good News: new machine does run. Bad News: with LMDE/4 it displays a whole mess of errors on start-up and then, after the customer logs on, it issues a warning stating hardware acceleration for graphics is not available. seems to run OK, though. There is no graphics card installed; it's using the in...

Re: RYZEN level 3

Since Mint 20 is a long term support edition and is supported until 2025 I would seriously consider that instead of LMDE4 for this army buddy. The applications are newer as well as the kernel and if he needs support with it, there are more users running Ubuntu Focal and Mint 20. You don't need a se...

RYZEN level 3

Does LMDE/4 support RYZEN 3000 series CPUs ? The one I would like to use for this next build is: AMD RYZEN 3 3200G 4-Core 3.6 GHz (4.0 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 65W YD3200C5FHBOX Desktop Processor this is an intro level system; I'd like to use integrated graphics rather than install a graphics card ...

Re: LMDE 4 - Add a VPN account

I have tried ExpressVPN in LMDE/4 It worked very well (it's not free though ) However: I'm not sure what a VPN is supposed to protect us from unless we are using a laptop in a coffee shop ?? granted a VPN can stop your ISP from monitoring your browsing habits. BUT: I think the real tracking goes on ...
