Linux Mint on Portable Hardrive?

Yeah it's been a while since I posted. You know this was my first linux distro? :) Anyway.... I was thinking about installing Linux on a portable hardrive. Has anyone had any luck with this? Are there any performance drawbacks to this method? I know installing Mint on the drive and setting the BIOS ...

I really like how you took advantage of the new Mint logo. It looks good Zero Prime

Re: DVDs not working

I second the idea above. VLC and Mint are a great combo for all DVDs: licensed and non-licensed.

Re: New Wallpaper - Plastic Logo

It probably doesn't mean much but I like this logo a lot. I like it better than the old logo because it provides a better leaf surface under the logo. And the plastic look is a very nice choice as well.

5 Stars!

Re: What to tell my parents...

You are right. I need to be respectful and so I will. I am currently taking my time with them and especially my mom. She seems to genuinely like Linux when I tell her about it, and I think that my dad and I can settle aside our differences on this topic. My dad and I both view computing very differe...

Re: Rebrand Linux Mint?

I think that if we do indeed change or alter the current logo we need to use something that won't be changed again for a long while. That way we do not have this debate again about re-branding. I am fine with using the new logo, as long as we stick with it for a while.

Re: Rebrand Linux Mint?

I voted for the new leaf. I think it would be cool for people to be able to recognize Linux Mint by just seeing that sleek and elegant leaf. It represents Mint well. PS: Essentially I had a much more detailed post but it was deleted and could not be recovered due to the infamous 500 error. Keep up t...

Re: What logo do you like best?

I agree that the new logo shows maturity and elegance. It is sleeker too, though the current logo is very nice as well. As far as which one I like better, I cannot choose simply because I like both of them the same. However, as far as what to do with the new logo...I say we wait until Linux Mint 7 (...

Re: who is in charge of the Mint XFCE project for Elyssa?

I don't know about Daryna, but you should be able to get it to work. AWN was built with GNOME in mind, so I see no reason why it should not be integrated well.

Are you talking about getting the dock to work in GNOME such as mine?

Re: How likely is it that Mint will be around 10 years from now?

I agree with you completely ronnoc  As for my personal opinion of Linux's future, I think it will be alive 10 years from now. I do not see any reason why it will become any less than Microsoft Windows in the future. As long as there is heart for FOSS, then Linux will stay alive and continue to...

Re: Sabayon?

I have learned more from all of the screw ups I have made over the years! Also, when I first became interested in computers my step brother gave me this advice. "It's only software." I never forgot those words! I practically live by that phrase (well at least in dealing within the computing world) ...

Re: What to tell my parents...

Well as for the Vista warranty ordeal, I do have a recovery DVD so I see no problem with it having been uninstalled contrary to my dad's beliefs. I will just show them with hard proof that I can do everything in Linux that I can do in Windows. And, at a faster rate too. Linux is snappier and perform...

Sabayon?

I have very recently ventured into Linux and I love it. The switch from M$ was much easier than I had expected and KDE, GNOME, and Xfce are all so very easy to use. I'd like to learn how to use a distro that calls on more knowledge than something as simple as Ubuntu, but I am a noob and I am far awa...

Re: Anyone Use Dream Linux?

I have used DL and I must say that I was inpressed, for me the LiveCD was blazing fast and it looks great without any tweaking. Though, it didn't replace Mint. Plus I have a Broadcom WiFi card, and DL doesn't play nice with it at all. However, aside from that it's a great distro especially if like X...
