Re: Cannot connect to wireless network?

@WharfRat- No, mac filtering is not enabled (I've reset the router to factory defaults and scanned all those settings to make sure it was all off), and no, I cannot ping the router from the laptop because I cannot connect to the router. @Spearmint2- I will check that out- that seems promising. Thank...

Cannot connect to wireless network?

I'm having a puzzling issue with the wifi on my Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. I've had the laptop for five years and have run a wide variety of Linux distress on it, and the wireless has been plug and play in 98% of them. I'm currently running Linux Mint 17 XFCE. I just set up a wireless network he...

Re: Trying to mount CIFS shares, NAS

Thank you for the detailed response! (Un?)Fortunately, the problem seems to have solved itself- of a sudden I am able to access it via smb://share in Thunar.
Thank you for the help, everyone!

Re: Trying to mount CIFS shares, NAS

Should have specified that I'm using Mint 17 XFCE, so this is in Thunar.
I've tried and failed to access it directly in Thunar, but my primary problem is just mounting the dumb share in the terminal.
I'll try what you suggest, about not giving the extra path.

Trying to mount CIFS shares, NAS

I recently bought a WD EX2 NAS and installed two 1 TB drives in RAID 1. I am trying to find some way to access the drive from Linux Mint. I have been trying this command: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.2.4/path/to/share /mnt/Share -o username=MYUSERNAME,password=MYPASSWORD But for this all I get is Re...

No suspend on Macbook Pro Retina (11,1)

I just installed Linux Mint 17 (cinnamon) on my new Macbook Pro Retina (11,1, most recent model). Installation was beautifully painless and almost everything is working out of the box. There are only two issues, and one of them is suspend- when I select suspend or close the laptop lid the screen tur...

Re: Package Installer Issue / sudo dpkg / Seg Fault

After the reboot, run that dpkg command again and see if that fixes it. If not, post back and we'll see about looking deeper.

Re: What stuff do you uninstall after installation?

With Mint XFCE 13, nothing. My current Mint usage is a bit of an experiment for me; I love tinkering with computers but it comes at the expense of a lot of other (more worthy pursuits)- therefore I am using a completely stock Mint.

Re: Can't boot to Mint after reinstall (Wubi)

Guess Wubi isn't quite deprecated but it's on its way out.
If you still want to use virtualization I'd still recommend VirtualBox.
Otherwise, I'm sorry I can't give much help with Wubi (used it maybe once a couple years ago).
Perhaps someone with more knowledge on that subject will reply.

Re: Weird occurance

Sounds like it switched to Gnome fallback mode (I assume you are running Cinnamon).
As far as the colors, I'm not sure abut that.

Re: What the.....changes!!??!!

No idea.
If it's back to normal all's well that ends well, I suppose.
Sounds like something went weird with the icon set and it fell back on the old Gnome ones.

Re: Can't boot to Mint after reinstall (Wubi)

First and most important: Linux cannot be installed on an NTFS partition. Even FAT32 is not a good idea, for the reasons you mention. The preferred filesystem is ext4. At this point are you wanting to dual-boot your computer between Mint and Windows (install Mint on bare metal) or would you prefer t...

You may have the wrong keyboard language/layout- see here on how to check/change it.

Re: Error when fixing broken package Help!

Run

Code: Select all

sudo rm -r /var/cache/apt/archives/*
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install your_program
Looks as though the .deb you downloaded is corrupt.

Re: Switching from Windows 7, what computer to buy?

Thanks Spearmint, that's what I am looking for. I like shopping on Amazon and I found this: http://www.amazon.com/fit-PC3-fit-PC3-D2x2-T56N-WB-H320-XLM-FM4U-CompuLab-Pro-Linux/dp/B0088XENK4/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1377227420&sr=1-3&keywords=mintbox It is a little more expensive than the Mintbox...

Re: Switching from Windows 7, what computer to buy?

Thanks for the reply. By hardware are you talking about the actual computer or peripherals? If I get a Linux computer I am going to buy something with the OS pre-installed, such as the Mintbox. Presumably the manufacturer will make sure that the hardware works. I do not plan on upgrading the hardwa...

Re: MDM Screen Res

No good reason that I can think of, but you can fix it fairly easily- instructions here.

Re: Thinking about switching from Windows 7, what to buy?

Mint (which is free) will run on almost any Windows 7 computer with no trouble. I think your best bet is to buy a computer with Windows 7 and install Mint alongside- if for some freaky reason it turn out not to play nicely with that computer's hardware, you can always fall back on Windows.
Good luck!
