[Solved] Cinnamon on 13.04 - Difficulties with extension...

Hi All. I have installed Cinnamon 1.8 on Ubuntu 13.04 via PPA, and love it. However, I'm having some issues with extensions, and I don't know whether it has to do with being on Ubuntu, or whether it has to do with 1.8 being too new, and some extensions needing to be updated. Most (but not all) exten...

I have the same problem under Cinnamon. I haven't done too much digging around regarding a fix yet though...

Re: [SOLVED] is there a way to rearrange extension placement

Thanks, you have inspired me to try to get rid of the infinity button (activities button) which I've not seen much reason for since dumping the bottom panel and moving the mgse menu to the top. (Because having both seems redundant.) Note for anyone who doesn't want to get rid of it -- Just FYI I've ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

I tried putting the 64bit DVD on a usb drive, using pendrivelinux.com's Universal USB Installer. Since it doesn't yet support Lisa, I first tried it with unlisted distro, new syslinux. That didn't work, so I tried it with old syslinux. The drive is bootable now. Booting shows an LM12 screen that sa...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

um yes i have and i know what i'm looking at. Ubuntu has an App store like one which is alot more appealing, Mint's works don't get me wrong and for along time it was better then the others. Sounds like you haven't actually looked at the newest ones. You could be right -- 11.04 was where Ubuntu and...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

^^ Have you actually looked at the Mint software manager? As a longtime Ubuntu user (probably about 3-3.5 out of the past ~4 years with Ubuntu, 6-9 months with Arch -- some brief flings with the others you'd expect sprinkled through), the Mint software manager immediately struck me as being more att...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

You might need gnome shell to restart in order for it to show up again. alt+f2 r : might do the trick. Thanks for this, but was unfortunately the first thing I tried. Hopefully the devs can figure out what's causing this though... I don't really see any obvious way to troubleshoot an individual ext...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

Has anyone had any issues with the menu on the bottom panel disappearing? It disappeared yesterday, and no matter how many times I turn it back on, it does not reappear. (And shows as off in the tweak tool whenever I go back to check.) I don't really see any obvious way to troubleshoot an individual...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

Thanks for your replies, however I still do not understand the benefits of this change. I guess what I was trying to say in my longwinded way was that whatever benefits there are to this change have been determined and justified within the Gnome dev team. Unless LM was going to continue releasing b...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

Maybe I'm blind to the positive but can someone explain why one should upgrading from 11 to 12. The sleek, easy to use, intuitive interface has been replace by two of limited functionality. I simply don't see the benefits that, even in the final release, this version can bring to my computing exper...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

One question -- I like the menu from the bottom panel -- can this be added/preserved in AWN or Cairo-Dock -- not sure how it's implemented currently, I haven't dug too deep yet. Not sure if its possible, but I do have a standard gnome menu when you click on the mint icon in the dock thanks to alaca...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate

the work that Clem and the gang did to put a Mint layer on top of the unworkable Gnome3 but as it stands now this is merely a beta than a RC Err no, this is gnome shell, that is what you get, it doesn't work like gnome 2. All the things you say are missing are no longer there, the mint team are not...

Re: GNOME 3 in Mint 11

^^ Can anyone confirm that the above works? In searching the forums I have not found anything definitive. I ask only because although that PPA worked fine for me with Ubuntu 11.04 as of my old build just about 3 weeks ago, my fresh build has rejected it repeatedly (rebuilt each time to be confident)...

Re: Compiz

I can only help you if you have nvidia, and my only experience here is blindly cookbooking the debian wiki. There's another thread here where I think they went about it slightly differently, but this worked for me... I used the module-assistant method here: http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrive...

Re: Compiz

^^ I didn't modify my xorg.conf at all beyond what I'd done when installing the proprietary nvidia driver -- Are you running the proprietary driver for whatever card you have? (I've only ever used nvidia under Linux -- but I think you need the proprietary driver for Compiz for ATI as well...?)

Re: Compiz

Edit: After I typed all this I found this on the Debian Wiki. It's a bit more structured and less seat-of-the-pants than my instructions... :) They don't mention the compiz-fusion-plugins-extra package though -- you are probably going to want that. http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz Unlike Ubuntu or the...
