Re: grub, efibootmg and headaches

Re: grub, efibootmg and headaches

Meanwhile I have tried refind, but still no luck. I can enroll as many keys as I like, secure boot does not work. But there must be a way to get around the grub bugs and problems. And I have learned that efibootmgr is completely useless because it fails to delete entries from the EFI partition and s...

[Solved] grub, efibootmg and headaches

I successfully have transfered Mint to my new M.2 SSD, including secure boot. But UEFI gives me headaches. Whenever I run grub-install, it re-enables outdated UEFI boot entries: root@hanni:~# efibootmgr BootCurrent: 0003 Timeout: 0 seconds BootOrder: 0003,0007,0000,0001,2001,2002,2003 Boot0000* Linp...

[Solved] invisible GRUB menu

Hi, since the upgrade from 19.3 to 20.0 the Grub menu is invisible. In /etc/default/grub I read: # The resolution used on graphical terminal # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE # you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo' But as there is no grub2...

Re: Grub2 Timeout 30 seconds after today's update

Why not? THe machine (Notebook) has no important data. Good for a btrfs test.

Re: Grub2 Timeout 30 seconds after today's update

I have installed 19.1 twice on the same machine on btrfs. First time in BIOS mode, no problem. Second time in UEFI mode: grub2 delay is fixed at 30 seconds.

Re: Installation hangs at "Preparing to install Linux Mint"

That's interesting. Both my computers behave the same way. One is a Lenovo B50-30 notebook, one a homebrew desktop. Both have SSDs only.

When I secure erase the SSD in my desktop completely using Parted Magic live CD Mint still hangs. So it is not a Windows bootloader issue.

Re: default screen resolution

Thank you for pointing into the right direction! In fact, it had been much easier. I logged in (and got my preferred screen resolution) and just ran xrandr: Virtual1 connected primary 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 800x600 60.0 + 60.3 2560x1600 60.0 1920x1440 60.0 ...

Re: default screen resolution

Thank you for the information, but ~/.xprofile affects only the user that is logged in. I would like to change the login screen's resolution.

default screen resolution

Hi,

how can I set the default screen resolution *before* logging in? I mean, without cvt and xrandr voodoo. It would be nice to have a control panel option for this.

Re: Linux Mint isn't working with my resolution

Similar problem here: installed Mint 15 and got only max. 1024x768 instead of native resolution 1280x1024. :?
