Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

Hey powerhouse, was doing reading to see if i can increase Win10 performance on vm anyway, and came across some about i/o mode=native. Apparantly something to put into the same line where one declares the disks. Any idea about syntax for it, all i can find is for virsh. Same idea with cache mode = n...

Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

Ok, all is working great.. Got low scores on both benchmarks, but i don't have the greatest hardware to begin with. I do have 1 issue. the sound in the windows VM, seems laggy. kinda distorted. Once i am in game ie fallout 4 everything is ok, except in the menus, then the sound is the same quality a...

Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

Thnx Powerhouse.. Ya i only realised that when i was doing the calcuations for the ram and the hugepage sizes i was allocating ALL my ram.. Idiot me wasn't thinking about just the ram that i wanted the VM to have. I did find out about the sleep and hibernate thing though.. lol.. Blanks the screen an...

Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

Am still fine tuning some settings. BUT, as soon as i put in the configs for hugepages, my systems ram usage goes to 90% and it stops using swap all together. Ok, got it figured out. basically, hugepages pre-allocates the ram. So with that said, whatever amount of ram you calculate with these calcul...

Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

Thank you for the drive setup info am just doing windows updates right now, and will set that up after. As for the benchmarks, sure thing. I was the one that had posted about the broken link, but i found a way to go about it without that link. Somehow, in my setup, when i give it a rom to use for th...

Re: HOW-TO make dual-boot obsolete using kvm VGA passthrough

AWESOME guide. THANK YOU. Took me a little doing but got everything working great. I do have 1 question though. i have a 1TB hdd that is basically my storage drive and named as such. --- > /mnt/Storage = /dev/sdc1 how can i pass that drive through to the vm so that i have access to all my program in...

Re: Wrong Cpu Frequency being detected

Well that did it, now i just gotta figure out how to do scaling quick and easy either by making a script or something since indicator-cpufreq seems to be cool'n quiet dependant.

Re: Wrong Cpu Frequency being detected

if that is the case, then why can indicator-cpufreq only go as high as 3.5GHz. I can manually change the governor on that. I still consider myself new to linux, 2 years is no where near what some of you guys are. So teach a young grasshopper who is not sure then what the issue is. Is the kernel drop...

Overclocked cpu, frequency being misread by linux and Conky.

Hi all, I did quite a bit of searching before posting here to make sure as best as i could that this problem wasn't covered somewhere else. Here it is. This is NOT a conky only problem, nor is it related to the governors as far as i can tell. I can throttle cpu at will. Linux mint Rebecca x64 -cpu i...

Re: Wrong Cpu Frequency being detected

I have tried what you suggested, with no luck.

This is NOT a scaling / governor issue.

Re: 3 Monitors 2 Video Cards Both ATI

Well I got it working my way. Using the oibaf repo drivers, since I did not want to use the catalyst or the proprietary drivers due to poor in game performance and them just being plain CRAP. With the aid of those drivers, and then arandr, and a little boot up bash script, every thing works the way ...

Re: 3 Monitors 2 Video Cards Both ATI

Did run into 1 issue, and the only way i could fix it was using a xrandr script at startup to configure my setup. Seems that for some reason at boot, the middle screen which is also the biggest, went beyond the workspace on the bottom, and cause the menubar to flip in a mirrored style on the bottom ...

Re: 3 Monitors 2 Video Cards Both ATI

Actually no. I re-installed the base system, kept the home folder. Did all updates and upgrades and dist-upgrades. Then added the oibaf repo, then updated and upgraded again. Then added 1 screen, rebooted, added the last 1 and rebooted again. As for the xorg.conf. Before i re-installed it was in /et...

Re: 3 Monitors 2 Video Cards Both ATI

Got it done. HD 7870 in first slot, x300 in the 2nd. Re-installed Mint, kept my home folder. Re-installed the radeonSI drivers after complete dist-upgrade. All three monitors up and running just fine. Dunno why it wouldn't take on the system before.. But am glad it's up and running.
