Re: Collegamento TV.

Re: Video card not supported by Mint 17

you actually changed only one, so my/your point is valid. :D Mint 17.1 uses the same kernel/drivers/stuff as Mint 17, since Mint from 17 onwards is based off Ubuntu 14.04, the LTS release, in an effort to avoid the major pain in the backside that was hopping to a new codebase every few months and to...

Re: Video card not supported by Mint 17

this is probably a Cinnamon issue (graphic interface), as opensource driver operates more or less any AMD card see here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver Or maybe a bug? Try updating manually your kernel to the latest to get latest opensource graphics driver (among other things). tutori...

Re: how do I change sudo timeout, and what to? and why?

I am interested in learning how to setup a server that can manage tons of private data & financial transactions. I'm actually using a powerful server as my main PC because I want to eventually turn it into a money-making web server of some kind. Then head over to Debian or RedHat forums. There you ...

It's called "releasing decent hardware documentation and driver sources" An example of such documentation is the document here http://www.raspberrypi.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/BCM2835-ARM-Peripherals.pdf It is a short from of the documentation for the BCM2835 system chip used in the Raspberry ...

if *everyone* really wanted security we would have done away with all these non-sense over-reaching functionalities, awhile ago, right? It's a matter of risk/benefit assessment. Top security is text-only interface and completely manual setup of each and every tiny bit of damn thing in the device (t...

I opine browsers should not be allowed to execute code that accesses such security-sensitive parts of the system. That's what everyone wants. Point is, with the complexity of anything modern, bugs can and do happen. But to play devil's advocate, how many folks have abundant reading skills, how many...

Re: Asus UX302LA Zenbook doesn't recognize it's own screen?

you also tried i915.modeset=0 instead of nomodeset? (from the thread linked above) ANother thing you can do: remove the hard drive from the laptop, connect it to a PC, install Mint into it from another PC (that won't have stupid issues this laptop has), boot from it when still in the PC, then update...

When booting from the usb or dvd don't let it boot automatically, press arrows when there is the mint boot screen countdown, this will open a boot menu, then select "boot Mint in compatibility mode" or something like that. You can also try to connect the laptop to another screen. As the OP said, lin...

Re: Asus UX302LA Zenbook doesn't recognize it's own screen?

Yes, Secure Boot is a feature that does not allow the device to boot "unauthorized" operating systems. Since Microsoft is the company that devised the Secure Boot system and sells the keys only to "trusted" entities... most linux distros won't boot if it is turned on. Turn it off. (Afaik only Fedora...

you seem to have the same problem as the OP. He said he connected an external screen to see things and that it was working with nomodeset (while main screen was still black). From the thread I linked they say you can see stuff on main screen with i915.modeset=0 as kernel option, but OP did not comme...
