Re: Building A School Computer Lab...

How would I do that now? Do I clone a disk image or something? I may need help with that one, plus all the above ones....

Re: Building A School Computer Lab...

Both hardware and software concerns aside, I'm going to need to consider these other essentials: 1. Furniture Requirements : We need furniture that could be universal for students K-5 through 12th grade. You'd have to think about ergonomics (things have to be adjustable), decent reliability of furni...

OpenSUSE Professional Edge...

I keep on hearing about OpenSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop as being very professional and marketed as capable for business. To me it seems rather relative, because I'm not familiar with using Linux for really critical productivity, just as an ordinary desktop user. I like what I've been hear...

Re: Building A School Computer Lab...

Professionally , no other way to do it! :D I've enlisted some of our high school boys (who apparently aren't into as many extra-curricular activities--pity) to help me with this build. We're gonna document it (plenty of pictures--I hope to post) for extra credit and I've asked them if they would li...

Building A School Computer Lab...

I've been asked by our school principal that next year we would have a computer lab, since our new gymnasium/multi-purpose building will open up some room for more classrooms and other opportunities for use =D. I asked him if it would be possible for me to build the machines and install Linux in the...

Re: Desktop Design

Sorry, I too have been offline for awhile. I have not built such a small computer myself yet, but when the next school year comes I will be able to build the computers for our lab, and I'll be using this list of parts and installing Linux in it (can't wait, *girlie squeel*). BTW, the wireless card i...

Re: Desktop Design

Based on its intended purpose for rather basic computing, I would really like to recommend this elegant little setup right here from newegg : 1. Foxconn mini-itx motherboard with a 1.8GHZ Intel Atom dual core (it's also 64-bit compatible with built-in, well-supported Intel graphics), $75 : http://ww...

New Lenovo Netbook, Useless Buttons...

I bought a refurbished Lenovo S10-3 from the factor outlet for $230 with tax and shipping. Great deal and all, installed Linux Mint 11 RC too, but when I installed it I made a tiny mistake. I looked up online reviews on it and they showed the Lenovo Quick Start environment, a 15-second Linux-based e...

Keyboard Keeps Pressing "f" Key On Its Own...

The strangest thing I've ever seen in computing--the computer keeps on pressing the "f" key, even when I detach the keyboard on Mint 10 LXDE. Whenever I try to open up something where it requires keyboard input, the "f" key infinitely presses. I couldn't even get the installer going until I decided ...

Re: Our Church Sound Booth PC...

What does your church want to do with this computer? Calculate the likelihood of evolution against some god-like being while winning a game of chess against Kasparov AND calculate the path of the next Mars probe? From what I read an ancient dual core would be more than sufficient, but apparently yo...

Re: BFG Tech Nvidia GT 210 Screen Flicker..[SOLVED]

Turns out that the replacement works in my computer and I switched out my brother's old 7300GS with the flickery card, and poof, it works! He thanked me for the performance gain. Well, we're all happy campers now! :D

Re: Our Church Sound Booth PC...

Those aren't really going to make much of a difference though, since I would assume (forgive me if I'm wrong), that this specific computer would be used to make and edit short videos under 5 minutes in length and slideshows. Or I could be completely wrong and your church could be a megachurch that ...

Re: Our Church Sound Booth PC...

Sadly, they have already chosen a new PC to use, a pre-built Dell:

I really wanted to help build a good machine, but they'd rather pay then wait for it to be shipped over....

Re: Big Scratch On Dad's Laptop...

Well, I've noticed that to be somewhat true. Over the past couple days many of them seemed to have disappeared and it appears more even and overall better looking. When you talk about heat, do you mean I should try to use a blow dryer in low settings to get them out?

Re: Big Scratch On Dad's Laptop...

Well, the sticker came in the mail today and was rather easy to install with my dad's help (he likes the design, BTW). It went rather well overall except for the tiny air bubbles that seem almost inevitable from trapped pockets of air. We tried to use a library card to push the bubbles out the sides...

Our Church Sound Booth PC...

Today I was asked about replacing the desktop in our church's sound booth (the deadline was yesterday, apparently  ). The old workhorse is fiendishly loud, encodes and plays back video poorly, has bugs supporting dual monitors, doesn't support some needed codecs in Windows XP and is not respons...
