Re: Hiding "JavaEmbeddedFrame"

As this still was an issue for me – Ubuntu 17.10 artful with Cinnamon 3.4.6 from Ubuntu's default software sources, using "Icing Task Manager" as my task bar/window list –, here's a "fix" (rather a workaround) that hopefully works for others, too. This fix should not be limited t...

Thank you, Dirk. :)

Re: Linux kernel 3.8.0.29.47 available -- update recommended

Thank you again, eanfrid. :)

In case I find the courage to risk the update: I'll report back in case it went really good or really bad.

Re: Linux kernel 3.8.0.29.47 available -- update recommended

Thank you everybody for your replies. As Mint still categorizes the updates as „Level 5“/„Dangerous packages“, I'm somewhat uncertain whether to risk the update or not. I'll see, maybe one day when I feel really lucky. :) (On the other hand, this issue will probably solve itself with next month's up...

Linux kernel 3.8.0.29.47 available -- update recommended?

Hi, I am on Linux Mint 15 with MATE, relatively fresh install, and apart from removed I haven't even added any PPAs yet (well, "Additional repository" according to Mint's Update Manager). Any installed packages are up-to-date, even up to "Level 4" updates. However, in Synaptic di...

Re: prevent screen dimming while playing a video

I added "Inhibit Applet" to my panel as a workaround for when I'm watching videos. Thank you, cosmic madness, for that hint. (Hehehe, I don't think I ever thanked the cosmic madness for anything up until now …) For me, this already-built-in workaround is preferable to a third-party ...

Re: prevent screen dimming while playing a video

I think mate-screensaver is a simplified version of Xscreensaver, isn't it? Nah, mate-screensaver is a fork of the old gnome-screensaver as it still existed in Gnome 2. Though, I guess in the transition and renaming of it, something went wrong between the old org.gnome settings and the new org.mate...

Re: prevent screen dimming while playing a video

One more note: The setting that dims the screen when the session is considered idle is 'idle-delay' in org.mate.session. There's a default set of 5 minutes. This setting is not touched when changing the "Regard the computer as idle after:" setting in mate-screensaver-preferences, so whatev...

Re: prevent screen dimming while playing a video

I think this is not a bug with VLC or Totem (Videos), but rather with mate-screensaver. It seems it somehow doesn't interpret all the relevant settings correctly. When looking at the settings for org.mate.screensaver and org.mate.power-manager with the dconf-editor, things look kind of logical and c...

Re: Compiz

Hi vividvibe, So, do I really have any options with desktop effects running Mint 15 Mate? Yes, you have. To configure Compiz with a GUI, install compizconfig-settings-manager (CCSM). With that you can activate/deactivate all plugins and configure pretty much all their settings. You might also want t...
