Auto-start of Second Harddisk incomplete after LM20 fresh install

Hi, Background I installed LM20-64 MATE onto a SSD. After updating, etc. the second (data) HDD was connected. On starting the computer the second HDD is seen by Caja (Mate's File Manager) but programs cannot access the second HDD. If, however, I select the drive using Caja then the second HDD become...

How to slow down Mint's Screensaver Artwork

How can the artwork of LM's artwork be slowed down? In LM20 the Screensaver Preferences shows Idle Time, Lock Screen on/off, and a long list of great Screensaver Schemes to choose from. :D However, I'd like to make the movement of much of the otherwise great artwork slower i.e. more leisurely. I'd f...

Re: Lots of "Free" space but 0Bytes "Available" space

Hi Rene, Thank you for your help, which kept mum's machine running for a few more weeks. Unfortunately the logs kept accumulating to GB size in spite of efforts and removal of Timeshift (no more large Timeshift files appeared). So when I had a chance I went and picked up her computer and installed a...

Re: Lots of "Free" space but 0Bytes "Available" space

Thank you, Rene. Since my last post I had cleared some more space including in /var/log/. The free space has ben stable since Thursday close to the following (recorded a few minutes ago): sudo du -hx -d 1 /var/log 4.0K /var/log/speech-dispatcher 4.0G /var/log/journal 1.3M /var/log/installer 8.0K /va...

Re: Lots of "Free" space but 0Bytes "Available" space

Hi Rene, following your further suggestions I found that Flatpaks were not the issue but did find over 150GB in "/var/log". # flatpak list Ref Options com.skype.Client/x86_64/stable system, current us.zoom.Zoom/x86_64/stable system, current org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default/x86_64/19.08 system,runti...

Re: Lots of "Free" space but 0Bytes "Available" space

You don't indicate what produces the numbers you give; is this an approx. 300G partition? If so, seems we're talking about the regular root-reserve. You could post the output of df and sudo du -hx -d 1 / to make the situation clearer. Hi Rene, Thank you for your reply. The values for Free and Avail...

Lots of "Free" space but 0Bytes "Available" space

Hi, On my mum's computer: After running into problems with Timeshift I deleted all backups from within Timeshift and disabled it but scheduling no automatic backups. It freed up about 20GB of space and after emptying Trash (separate actions for users) I had about 1.5GB of Available space. Next day t...

Thank you, Kseanfitz_1.
Yes, your Bios/UEFI comment is relevant. However, I had disabled those options in the Bios/UEFI but it didn't solve the problem in my case.

Re: Firefox opens on Non-Active Workspace

I found that it is linked to the option "Restore previous session" in Settings. Unfortunately I haven't found a solution yet, so I'm regularly wasting time and focus hopping through all the Workspaces searching for Firefox when it starts, and then moving Firefox to the workspace I'm working on. Some...

Re: [Solved] Automatic Keyboard wake from Suspend/Sleep (How to deactivate)

Hi, unfortunately this annoying aspect of Linux Mint has persisted into LM20 MATE i.e. even slight movement of mouse or keyboard wake the machine from suspend.

Will Magnus7's last suggestion above also work for LM20?

Re: Battery Profile for Performance in LM19?

I know of nothing in Mint that would cause such slowdown on your machine operating on battery. There is a good battery optimizer call slimbook-battery you can get it from this page by following the instructions to add the slimbook PPA. https://mintguide.org/tools/914-slimbook-battery-tool-to-save-b...

Ok, I am trying to do this in 19.3 Tricia Mate I don't want to connect every time that I log into the operating system I want to choose when I connect. Can your instructions be adapted for those specifications? Here are the instructions provided by the service provider https://mullvad.net/en/help/l...

Hello, please see How to get help. Especially point 5.
Thanks for your post. I've edited the original post to include "MATE" and that it is a recent, standard install. I hope all necessary details are now present. (I don't imagine hardware is the issue here.)

Firefox opens on Non-Active Workspace

Problem After an update of Firefox a month or more ago Firefox began misbehaving on opening i.e. Firefox no longer opened on the current Workspace but opened randomly on one of the other 4 Workspaces. There is also no indication where it opened (nor even if it opened at all) so I have to search thr...

Re: Removing Zoom give error reply "Unable to locate package zoom"

Thank you for your replies, Flemur and smurphos, - Yes, I installed using Software Manager, the version is Zoom 5.0 (Flatpak). - flatpak list results in us.zoom.Zoom/x86_64/stable system, current in the first line. - dpkg -S `which zoom` resulted in error message " dpkg-query: error: --search needs a...

Symptoms I've been using Zoom for a months or so. Lately it's giving audio quality problems and can't always find the audio. A reboot generally helps. Re: Run openvpn client without sudo

In answer to Netherprovinc3's original question (... if anyone's still listening ...): You don't normally need sudo rights (as has been pointed out). For years I've had VPN's from employers and even private ones and never had to connect using sudo. If possible I've used Mint's Network Manager and an...
