Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
@Jedinovie Some of what you say is true but a lot of it doesn't relate to what I experience working here in the IT industry in the UK and from what I can see other parts of the world. Also your conclusions are, in my opinion, way off. HI upholder, i have all but finished a Looonnng reply to all you...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
The following run on ARM. Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, Manjaro, Arch As for Mint on ARM, it might work if an ARM capable Kernel was installed. Just guessing on that one. I doubt it. The kernel alone does not an O/S make. All the libraries and utilities that make up Mint would have to be ported over as w...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
... the dirt cheap OS ARM/Linux Pinebook is upon us and selling like hot cakes! Want one? Join the year long queue! Done! And thanks for mentioning it. Looks like it'll be something amusing to play with. Heck, for $99, it'd be hard to go wrong :) Heck, maybe, by then, I'll have decided to get back ...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
Given the Pinebook is, essentially, no more than a more capable Chromebook and Chromebooks have been a super best seller for years now - it's going to be a winner and Joe Public will buy the "Pinebook ][" because it will be DIRT CHEAP and do all the things 90% of the population actually w...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
The main reason Linux doesn't dominate desktop is cuz lack of apps and games only available for Windows. Disagree. See my post above. What we have learned certainly since the arrival of the first netbooks is just how few apps the public really want. Once ARM and Linux can come together to provide a...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop
In regards to Linux winning the Desktop war - I actually believe it is inevitable for a mass of reasons, many of which are NOT presented here! As it stands, we have learned in recent years that Joe Public does not really want a fully specced out, multi-purpose laptop (certainly not a desktop unless ...

@Jedinovice THIS is the kind of discussion I'm talkin' 'bout :D It is unfortunate that the KDE forums are so ......., um, dead, relatively speaking. Despite your hectic scheduled you have replied above and beyond my asking. Thank you! Don't get too excited. As I was saying, I use my laptop al the t...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!
Sorry about delay in replying to everyone. I have been dead these last couple of days. Totally exhausted by this year. Come January I am recruiting!! [And exhaustion will explain any and all typos. I am barely awake typing this.] Anyway, back to the plot... Indeed. I believe it stands for " KDE...

Re: App/tool download scripts/lists for Neon!
This is now ancient history but I did confirm that it is to do with the profile being set to nothing and is fixed by simply inputting '/bin/bash' in the 'command' setting.mr_raider wrote:I noticed neon doesn't do tab autocompletion in terminal. Did you fix that?
Just in case anyone else gets worried.

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!
Hi Ken, Hey – everyone is welcome to the party! And we are all here to provide feedback and data. [Er, long post as I cover a number of points. I do this on occasion!] Re: Kdenlive I'm a little confused, or you're confused! It's one of us! :D Kdenlive does mean KDEnlive! The editor was written speci...

Re: App/tool download scripts/lists for Neon!
I noticed neon doesn't do tab autocompletion in terminal. Did you fix that? I like said, I used Neon just because it worked and worked at the time i needed it. I have had ZERO tie to delve into Neon. That's why Mintstick does not work on my laptop yet. I use use the terminal very little. I am typin...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!
Will do. But you have to give me some time!!! I'm sure your couple of days off will be sufficient  Seriously, though, such info will be very valuable, when time and energy permits. There's no rush as we still have LM18.3 KDE to look forward to and gives some breathing space for Mint KDE ad...

App/tool download scripts/lists for Neon!
OK,this is a sorta 'Quick and dirty' attempt to make Neon usable that bit faster with useful software download listings. Note that I have had to compress all files for the forum to accept them. Dunno why, it just is! Because Neon is a totally bare bones install on a par with Windows on total absenc...

Re: Recommendations for a MP3 player pleeeease!
Try Audacious. That's my player of choice and seems to do MOST of what you want. It doesn't do 3 unless you clicked 'STOP' during the song in question. The player moves to the next song once the current one finishes. This is standard behaviour for just about any video/audio player, on a computer or...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!
Then I hope to attach both Synaptic and Aptik file listings that can be loaded in so people can grab and load in all the libraries, languages and tools needed to make Neon much more like Mint. That would be very useful indeed! And much appreciated. :D Will do. But you have to give me some time!!!

Recommendations for a MP3 player pleeeease!
OK, can someone help me with what SHOULD be a simple matter but somehow isn't. [I am not quite on Linux Questions for Neon yet!] For the record I am using Neon LTS with KDE 5.8 but all the following applied to Mint 18.2 which is still running on my trusty ASUS N2840 just in case Neon fails on me. Al...

Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!
You using Neon LTS (5.8.8) or Neon User (5.11.x)? Good to hear Neon is stable. I have issues running WPS office in GTK, but WPS Linux is almost abandon ware, so that may not be KDE's fault. Netrunner is either Debian or Manjaro (rolling) based. Not Ubuntu based. Since I need Ubuntu compatibility fo...
