Re: Can't find a VPN.

You don't need to install any software to use a VPN.
The easiest is to use a PPTP VPN.
You can try NoLimitVPN for example, they have a free offer.

Once registered, you'll get a mail with the gateway, username & password.

To set up the VPN, follow This tutorial

Firefox without title bar? And problem with Ctrl key

Hello, Does anyone knows a way to remove/hide the title bar in Firefox (at least when it's in full screen) ? I tried a few extentions, most of the not working... only "Hide Caption Titlebar Plus" works more or less but the result doesn't look very nice (for example it doesn't handle the "round" corn...

Re: [SOLVED] Problems changing passwords.

Sorry I can't help with that... my technical skills are too limited.
You may want to suggest improvement of cinnamon-settings for not requiring root privilege anymore there -> https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon

Re: SSD tips for new 17 install? Where get Xp theme?

Don't make anything in /var a tmpfs. As /var is specified to survive reboots, programs may depend on /var being on persistent storage--if you tamper with that you may impact performance in a bad way (as files need to be recreated each boot) or limit functionality (no history). Not really worth it I...

Re: [SOLVED] Problems changing passwords.

You're welcome! :D root account is required to perform some administrator tasks therefores it cannot be disabled. Linix Mint offers you some security though : you cannot directly log in as root. Actually normally you always work with your normal account and when a task requires evevated privileges, ...

Re: SSD tips for new 17 install? Where get Xp theme?

As mr_raider said, modern SSDs run fine with the default installation so if you're just starting with linux, the best is probably to use the system as it is. If you really want to tweak your system, my advise are : don't go too far: some tweaks you'll find on the net are for older SSD and some other...

Re: Problems changing passwords.

I don't know for LMDE but for the main edition, during the installation, the same password is set for your main user AND for root. You changed your password but not the root password -> I guess this is why you now have some some apps - the ones that requires root privileges - that still prompt for y...

<SOLVED> synaptic:4339 error

Hello,

I noticed that when I install or remove an application from the GUI, I always get this error (but the (un)installation works fine) :

Code: Select all

(synaptic:4339): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed
Anyone knows how to fix it ?

Thanks!

Hi,

Actually I noticed problem since I upgraded to Mint 17 but it was all my fault : during the upgrade, I did encrypt the home folders so of course I cannot use the psd anymore.
Duh, stupid me !
