Re: UEFI / GPT Linux Mint 15 install boot problems.

I decided to get two 2TB drives to avoid this issue.

Interesting. That is the only URL I received. Here is the full message: "Boot successfully repaired. Please write on a paper the following URL: http://paste2.org/new-paste In case you still experience boot problem, indicate this URL to: boot.repair@gmail.com or to your favorite support forum. Y...

Re: Urgent help needed for partition recovery.

Here's a completely wild idea and I have no idea if it would work. Create a larger partition on a drive that has the formatting you want. Open GParted and do a copy of the affected partition, then paste into the other partition. See if it can be accessed at all then. If not, then run FSCK on the dr...

Re: UEFI / GPT Linux Mint 15 install boot problems.

OK, I ran boot-repair. Here is the URL: http://paste2.org/new-paste . I am still unable to boot. My current setup (before the addition of the 4TB drive) is two internal hard disks, each drive 1TB in size. The first one has Ubuntu 12.04 on (I am extremely tired of Unity), while the other has Windows ...

Urgent help needed for partition recovery.

In the process of re-organizing my system and installing Linux Mint 15 XFCE, I accidently reformatted my /dev/sda6 partition from ext4 to xfs and lost my /home partition information in the process. I am trying to recover the partition by using my Linux Mint 15 XFCE install DVD. I am using this Ubunt...

UEFI / GPT Linux Mint 15 install boot problems.

I am trying to get a Linux Mint 15 XFCE install to boot from GRUB. The install is on a new 4TB WD internal drive. My plan is for this to be a triple boot system, with Linux Mint, Salix OS and Win7. I first created a GPT partition table. Then I created a 1MB partition "grub_boot" (ext2) par...

Re: Crunchbang Mint?

Thanks caerolle. I think I will do as you suggest and save copies of the files - to my Dropbox account. Then I can try installing LMDE and test how the system works with my hardware - my Acer 725 was produced in June

Re: Crunchbang Mint?

Thanks for all of the replies so far. I can see the problem with using Crunchbang as a base with LMDE bits installed. I am tempted to try LMDE, but as was mentioned, there are probably a massive amount of updates to install. I seem to remember that there was an initiative to provide a version of LMD...

Crunchbang Mint?

I have the latest Crunchbang Linux Waldorf (testing) system installed on my Acer Aspire One 725 laptop. I like the minimal Openbox system, but I detest the look and would also prefer to have Firefox and Thunderbird (among other things) installed. Is there a way that I can give my Crunchbang system s...

Re: LMDE Gnome 3 default behavior?

I tried booting with an LMDE system from an external CD/DVD drive. The wireless didn't work and for some reason, the touchpad is disabled. I have to press Fn - F7 to get the touchpad to work. Is there a new LMDE respin expected soon? I imagine that there are a lot of updates waiting with the current...

Re: LMDE Gnome 3 default behavior?

OK, thanks. I read the LMDE faq as well as the LMDE stable faq. So, installing the gnome-shell installs a complete Gnome 3 environment? There may some issues with driver support, as I would be installing LMDE on my new Acer Aspire One 725 netbook. Will drivers be available in LMDE as default or will...

LMDE Gnome 3 default behavior?

I would like to install LMDE on my new netbook, but would like the default GNOME 3 behavior as the Gnome developers intended, without the Mint menu, Cinnamon, MATE, etc. Is that possible?

Mint 13 Cinnamon install on new Acer Aspire One 725.

I would like to install Mint 13 Maya Cinnamon on my new Acer Aspire One 725. The computer comes with Linpus Linux installed and I believe that the BIOS is EFI based. I believe that there are potentially three potential issues with the install: 1) I am planning on erasing the entire hard disk, and am...

Re: Removing recent history from Linux Mint 12 KDE.

First select all the items....just hit the 'select all' button first. Strange...it works perfectly in my set-up :( Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Yes the app works fine, but as soon as I open a new file or use a new app, new items appear in the "recently used" item in Kicker. I want to to...

Re: Removing recent history from Linux Mint 12 KDE.

Just install the tiny package called 'sweeper' from synaptic. It will delete all the temporary kde-history in a neat and safe manner... Thanks for the quick reply. I think Sweeper is cool, but I still have the "recently used" item in Kicker, as well in individual apps such as Gwenview, Ka...

Removing recent history from Linux Mint 12 KDE.

I am new to KDE, but I am in general loving Linux Mint 12 KDE, which I have just installed on my main computer. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a way to remove recent history from Kicker as well as in applications with a "recent history" item. How can I remanently remove the hist...

Leaving them in place won't do any harm.

Sorry, I meant uninstall the meta-package.

LM 11 LXDE to XFCE.

I personally like XFCE a lot better than LXDE, but as there no longer is an LM 11 XFCE version, I was wondering how to get the full minty experience with XFCE. Should I just install the XFCE4 meta package and then go into an XFCE session and delete the entire LXDE-Mint desktop meta package?

Re: Rolling release newbie.

My advice would be to wait for the respin of LMDE to appear (yes that is gnome but you can always put xfce on top of it) then install that along with your sources pointing to 'latest' (which I guess will be the default though not 100% sure about that). If you have no idea what I am talking about re...

Rolling release newbie.

I have tried installing the new Linux Mint XFCE rolling release a couple of times, but lack some info on how to manage a rolling release system among other things. I imagined that an LM rolling release would be similar to Ubuntu, but without trying to force users into accepting specific gui and app ...
