Creating a system from scratch

I am creating a OS from scratch and not using linux as anything but a compiler and tools to build it with. Anyways I compiled it with gcc and I need to write it to the first sector of the disk. How do I write it to the disk?

Fan problems on Acer Aspire 5720Z

Yea hi,
Is there software that will allow my laptop fan to work on Mint 15? When I boot up it will spin. However when it boots to the operating system it stops. This causes it to overheat and shutdown. Any advice on how to fix it? :(
