Re: Mint 13 not Mounting Toshiba External HD
What error do you get when you try to mount the drive? Are you trying to mount in gparted, from a file manager, or via terminal? Does the drive show up in gparted for linux at all?

Re: Chown other drives
My other drives are owned by root and they have folder named .Trash-1000 which is owned by root too. And I think this is the reason I cant delete any files from those drives to Trash. Am I correct? Also I read that if I chown the rest of the drives, I would be able to delete files from there to tra...

Re: Mint won't shutdown
pukica12, has anything changed on your install? Did you recently upgrade, installs some software, or change some config. I don't really know what your problem is, but I'm interested in solving it. What kind of hardware do you have, maybe somebody else is having, or has had a similar problem. The lin...

Re: Fan constantly on, using up battery (Dell)
tcoll, give us an update as soon as you can. Does the driver from jungle_boy suggest work? I think this is the video driver for your dell he is talking about. It looks like it's a single .run inside the .zip you download, so you probably need to right click -->properties --> Permissions tab --> Chec...

Re: advertising ... why these adds?
Leaving the ads visible just to support Mint is, imo, a weak argument. I can't think of another reason to leave the ads visible than to support Mint. I'm a no-name with an unpopular website, how will sponsoring help? I don't have disposable income at the moment so how can I help? Well, I can click ...

My desktop is showing the contents of home (~) not ~/Desktop
I'm having the same problem as this user on superuser.com, and as far as I can tell, the logical solution is: gsettings set org.nemo.preferences desktop-is-home-dir false...

Re: ASUS officially don't support linux
That is a damn crappy and disrespectful response from a major international hardware vendor. Specifically, the problem with hardware compatibility lies with the chipset manufacturers. Boycotting ASUS is a bit of an over-reaction. Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with this one. If you plan on going ...

Re: How "smart" do you get with your phone?
Google keep is a pretty snazzy note taker. You can attach media files as needed and it's pretty no-nonsense. Astrid tasks is a nice list maker, and with a little tweaking you can get the reminders to be as naggy as your wife, so you remember to get things done. VXConnectBot is a better version of Co...

Re: advertising ... why these adds?
If you find the ads objectionable, in Firefox, Chromium, or Chrome just install the Adblock or Adblock Plus extension. If you use another browser, you should be able to find something similar. This is true unless you support the website you're on. If you want to contribute to the Mint community the...

What game is it? If you're successful in your install, knowing the game would be helpful to others later.

Re: Playing nexuiz
I've never played the game before, but now I probably will haha) but after a Google search I found a reply on QA website: When you are playing hit the ESC key. Re: Screen Recorder for LM15 Minecraft
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1229 I found this article on the community website. The software listed are Istanbul, recordMyDesktop, xvidcap, vnc2swf, Krut Computer Recorder, cpsrecode capseo and KWin. I don't know anything about these. Maybe try them out and report back with your exp...

Re: Gamepad mapper!! New and improved qjoypad: AntiMicro
It really is the little things, huh. I mean, I play PC games all the time and occasionally on a friends Xbox, but it never really occurred to me that a joystick will return to center where a mouse will not. It's so obvious now that you've mentioned it, but I never thought of it otherwise... I look f...

Re: Linux is Not Windows
I really liked the section that compares all the "windows features" that existed before Microsoft implemented them. It's interesting to see when something existed, and then existed in a popular form. But, the most interesting to me was this bit: The X11 windowing system. . . well, the most...

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Xenopeek, great info! One of the major reasons I wanted to come back to Linux, and get active in the community, is because I want to start programming again. Those links are a great starting point for me. Thanks again.

Returning to Linux once again
Hello, I built a PC few years ago and saved some money by using Ubuntu. After about a year I went out and got Windows 7 and haven't really used a Linux since. I had Crunchbang on a netbook for a while, but migrated my way to Mint with Mate. I didn't use the netbook much, though, so I'm looking forwa...
