Re: GIMP crash
Hey Dudo, I may have solved your problem. In GIMP go to the View menu and see if you have "Full screen" checked. If you do, then this could be your problem. The full screen option eliminates the window frame. Uncheck it and see if your window reappears. Just a thought, see if that is your ...

Ubuntu Tweak now supports Mint
Hi anyone interested,
FWIW, I noticed on GedDeb the latest Ubuntu Tweak version (0.4.7-1) now supports Linux Mint (see the changelog). Even has a green logo at the start....maybe that is the extent of Mint support???
Regards
John

Re: GIMP crash
Dudo, I don't really know what the problem is, but it does sound like a window manager issue/theme issue. Are you using Compiz? If so, there is a neat little package that helps you fiddle with the settings called "Compiz fusion icon". You can get it through Synaptic. Start the icon through...

Re: GIMP crash
Hi there dudo, GIMP does indeed work in Mint 6 Felicia. I'm currently running Gimp 2.6.1 without problems. I don't have a sure fix for your problem. It could be graphics card related, a Compiz issue or a number of other things. However, your problems sounds like an issue that occurs with Firefox, th...

Re: GIMP crash
Dudo, GIMP does indeed work in other earlier versions of Mint. One thing I have found is that for GIMP to install properly from removed is to uninstall it first before you install your new downloaded version. I frequently have had issues trying to install (GIMP) from removed until I worked out that ...

Re: FIREFOX Trouble
Dan, The fonts can be improved, but it is up to you to fiddle with them to get what you like. this is governed by a number of factors. 1) what fonts you have loaded 2) The theme you are running 3) Your preferences You can find the fonts in FF Edit > Preferences > Content > Advanced . Here are my set...

Re: FIREFOX Trouble
Hi there youdkelon You can fix the problem by going into your Compiz Settings Manager (this is found in Control Center or on the optional compiz icon - downloadable from Synaptic). Once in the Settings Manager, click on the "Workarounds" icon in the "Utility" section of the menu....

Solution to the Firefox title bar problem
Hi there, A problem found its way into the latest upgrade of Firefox where the Window title bar goes missing. This seems to only occur with those people using Compiz. A simple short term fix is pressing F11 but it does not always "stick". Here is a solution that will ensure this is not a p...

Re: "Low End" Photo Editor
G'day Paul, My favourite is Geeqie which is simple to use but is flexible enough to take you to Gimp if you need to. This is a very good package and should be in our Software Manager but I'm not sure it is there yet. You can get it from Synaptic or a more recent version from removed. Like the other ...

Suggestion: Photography software
Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the right place to suggest this, but I would like to see three more photography packages added to the Mint Install Software Manager. 1) Geeqie is a viewer that is linked or can be linked to other picture editors. Unlike the current software listed, it handles RAW im...

Firefox 3 lockup; CPUs 100%
Hi there, Just installed Firefox 3.0.7 from the updates. It locks up when downloading pdf docs. CPUs running at 100%, the fans on my laptop cut in and the whole laptop locks up. I'm posting this using Epiphany. I will try and get my old version of Firefox up as I can't find it in the repos. Not sure...

EMPIA em2860 driver install problem with "make"
Hi there, I posted on the newbie forum something that probably belongs here. My apologies. I'm having a problem installing a driver. I'm following the instructions from the Ubuntu site and strike a problem. Here is the error message from the "make" make running ./build.sh build make[1]: En...

Compile error: No targets
Hi there, I'm trying desperately to get my analogue video play to work with Mint (something that I did successfully with Mint Elisa), but when I compile the driver with the "make" command I get: "No targets. Stop" I have build-essentials installed. Any clues on how to fix this? T...

Re: .tgz package
Hi robbiesan, You can do it this way assuming you are intending to install something rather than simply opening a compressed file. Replace the exact name of the package you are trying to uncompress where I have written below "program_name". Remember to type accurately with all the correct ...

Keeping the thread alive..... Just noticed on DistroWatch a new Ubuntu based arts distro, "ArtistX". See here http://artistx.org/site2/ . I would add to the the original post of selected packages (for the proposed Mint Studio) a decent photo image editor (GIMP is good but on its own can't ...

Scanner Utility
Hi there,
I have an older HP scanner which I tried to use tonight. The default Scanner Utility did not detect my scanner. I installed Xsane and it detected my scanner without a problem. My suggestion is that we revert to Xsane if possible.
Regards
john

Re: I miss "lock screen" option [SOLVED]
After googling I found that I am not alone at missing the icon as it has been a source of debate in Ubuntu. However, in preferences>keyboard shortcuts there is already configured a way to lock the screen using the keyboard. It is CTRL + ALT + L. Perfect, although I think the icon should be returned ...

I miss "lock screen" option [SOLVED]
Hi all, With LM6 the Quit menu has been split in two: Quit and Log out. On previous gnome Quit menus there was an option to lock the screen for when you are working on something and you don't want people touching it when you walk away from your machine. How can I do this now is LM6? Is there a hidde...
