Upgrade to 18.2 on Intel graphics = external monitor unusable

Hello, ever since upgrading to Mint 18.2 Sonya (Cinnamon), I've been unable to use an external monitor on my laptop's VGA port. When I attempt to set it up for non-mirroring, it will go into a mode where it's split (sort of) into quadrants with the taskbar misplaced, and be unusable. This was workin...

Re: chromium-browser is out of date

Weird. I think the repo I hit the last couple times was behind. I tried it half an hour before posting, and a couple times in the past day or so, and it didn't update.

more obvious notifications in tray

Hi there, I would like the little notification alert in the systray to be more eye-catching. Right now it blends in too much. I need it to draw my eye when there are unread notifications, otherwise I miss important ones. A color change would be a start. Some sort of animation would be even better. A...

Re: 'anticipatory' IO scheduler

After doing further reading, I've switched to the 'deadline' scheduler. Preliminary testing (by using the system interactively with continuous maxed out reads) seems much better. If I get annoyed with it I'll come back and update the thread.

Re: 'anticipatory' IO scheduler

Thanks for the info on the parameter for cfq, that's a good thing for me to look into.

I use a cloud sync app that occasionally rescans, and sometimes scan large directory trees for duplicates, etc. And the system becomes unusable while doing so.

'anticipatory' IO scheduler

Hey folks, I'm stuck using a laptop with the slowest disk I've encountered in many years. I do things from time to time that use the disk intensively (mostly reads). The system pretty much grinds to a halt when this is occurring. I have a hunch that changing my disk IO scheduler from 'cfq' to 'antic...

Re: [SOLVED] "A Problem Has Been Detected With Your Thumbnail Cache"

A fix for this was committed about a month ago. Hopefully this will stop happening soon; whenever a new version of nemo drops, try clearing the cache as mentioned in this thread and hopefully it will not happen again.

Re: where to report bugs in non-Mint apps that are likely Mint-related?

It could also be with Nautilus or Ubuntu.
  1. Right click an image in Shotwell
  2. Select Send To
  3. Click OK
This yields the error "Unable to launch Nautilus Send-To: Failed to execute child process "nautilus-sendto" (No such file or directory)"

I believe this is a problem external to Shotwell.

Re: where to report bugs in non-Mint apps that are likely Mint-related?

That's the Shotwell bug tracker. This is likely a bug in Shotwell as installed in Mint. So, I need to know where to report a bug with the shotwell package in Mint.

Re: *.Bat MS Did it for a reason didn't they?

This functionality exists in *nix. It is called a shell script rather than a .BAT file, but the concept is identical.

There are also plenty of ways to run shell scripts at many points during startup.

where to report bugs in non-Mint apps that are likely Mint-related?

I'm having a problem with Shotwell that involves an external handler, and it is likely specific to Shotwell as installed on Mint, so the (dusty and practically abandoned) Shotwell bug tracker is not an appropriate place to report it.

Where do I report bugs like this?

Re: Chromium should be the default browser

I my self, i'm using Firefox, but the truth is, most people are using google chrome. So, it should be chromium..... What most people do, true or not (stats mentioned elsewhere indicate that this is not true for Mint users), is a very thin rationale for changing the default browser after years of st...

Re: Consider replacing VLC with SMPlayer in Linux Mint 18.2

I thought Xplayer was the default video player. Anyway, you say that SMPlayer is better than VLC. Please define "better." VLC works with nearly every media format known to humanity, which is a huge point in its favor. The default UI isn't exactly clean, and it has far more functions than just being ...

Hot corner delay or hover

Hello there, I have 17.3 with the latest Cinnamon running on a dual monitor setup. I use hot corners but the locations of three of them overlap with things I use a lot (the window close button, the clock, and the menu). Is there any way to set a hover delay on hot corners?
