Re: Win7 for Christmas

Endless “searching for updates” is a known and widespread issue with Windows 7. With a fresh installation I had a computer “searching” for over 24 hours without completing updates. I have friends who also have the same problem with their older Windows 7 machines. You can call Microsoft support and t...

How to verify ISO Mint 18

Hello, I want to upgrade to Mint 18 cinnamon, and I see that there are new instructions to verify the integrity of the ISO. I downloaded the ISO, but can't find the “sha256sum.txt and the sha256sum.txt.gpg files” in order to download them. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, and I a...

Re: Mockturl Weather Applet Problem - Update

I am having the same issue with this weather app; for the time being I removed it from the panel until I find something else to use.
I am also running Mint 17.2 cinnamon 64 bit.

Re: Welcome Ladies - post here :)

Hello ladies! I am a Windows XP refugee. Currently I am running Mint 17.2 Cinnamon and I love it for its ease of use. I am not much of a techie, but am not afraid to poke around inside a computer and work with different operating systems and software, so I maintain our computers. We still keep a Win...

Re: New Linux Machine

I can personally recommend ZaReason. I bought a desktop computer from them 2 years ago. The computer is great and so is the customer service; I had a lot of questions before I placed the order, and a few after I received the computer, and they were very responsive. I am planning on buying a laptop f...

Re: Problem with Mint updater scheduler ?

I'll add my experience with this issue here: I am running Mint 17.1 Rebecca Cinnamon. A few weeks ago I changed the settings to refresh updates every 12 hours. I have my computer running a few hours in the morning and in the evening, and it is turned off otherwise. Since I made that change I have ha...

Re: Unattended-upgrades

Thank you for the info WharfRat. Where did you find it? I would like to be able to find such answers myself; I have been using Mint exclusively for over a year, but still consider myself a bit of a newbie in certain areas!

Unattended-upgrades

I am running Mint 17.1 Cinnamon. Today update manager is offering (among others) this “Unattended-upgrades” level 3 software upgrade for “automatic installation of security upgrades.” I usually install all updates through level 3 but I have a question about this one. If I install it, going forward w...

Re: Question about boot order w dual boot setup

Your instructions described exactly what I did the first time, but it worked this time (I think, so far after a couple reboots anyway)! However, I still got the same error messages. I was able to copy them this time since my system did not freeze like it did before. Since the changes worked is it sa...

Re: Question about boot order w dual boot setup

Thanks. Well, my first attempt to change configuration so last OS boots first was unsuccessful. The gksudo command brought up the relevant file as well as a blank text editor page behind it. I found the GRUB_DEFAULT= line and made the change to “saved” but when I tried to save it I ran into problems...

Re: Question about boot order w dual boot setup

Austin.Texas: Great tips! You read my mind; this is just what I wanted to know how to do but didn't know was possible. I will work on this next time I am on that computer. Another question: Must these changes be made in terminal, or can the changes be made by directly editing the "/etc/default/grub ...

Re: Question about boot order w dual boot setup

Thank you for your reply. Only updates through level 3 were selected so probably no kernel updates; however I think there were over 500 Mb of updates so something else triggered the change. I didn't bother running updates right away since I was only testing (and I didn't think it mattered); glad to ...

Question about boot order w dual boot setup

I have what seems to be a simple question but a bit of background first. I have a very old former Win XP computer which I am using to practice various partitioning schemes as I learn more about Linux. The specs are so low it cannot run any flavor of Mint 17 (I tried!), so I am using Mint 13 for my t...

administrollaattori wrote:When suggesting some program for importing pictures, do not use it. Camera shows as an normal media, so click that media and import pictures via file manager.
Reorx also suggests this.

This is also how I do it; simple and it works every time! I am using Mint 16 Cinnamon.

Enjoy!

Re: Mate vs Cinnamon 32 or 64 bit - help please!

Welcome! I also recommend dual boot Mint 13 and XP for your computer. If for some reason you can't create your own discs, or don't want to, you can buy a Mint 13 disc from OSDisc.com. I believe a portion of your purchase will be donated to the Mint project. I bought my disc from them since my XP mac...

Re: Which Version?

... "Is there a way of re-entering a command line with a single key stroke?"... I am still very much a beginner with the terminal so I use the gui whenever possible (when I am in a hurry) to accomplish tasks. I am working through a guide to teach myself more... Hopefully someone with more knowledge...

Re: Which Version?

Please see this thread regarding medibuntu update errors: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=147271

edit: scroll down the page to find a method to do the same thing with the gui (not terminal) if that is easier for you.
