Re: TRESOR kernel patching
There has been very little development of TRESOR since the main release. I co-maintain some AUR packages for ArchLinux which have updated some code so it runs with 3.17 and 3.14 :) If you're up to manually building kernels, then you should be able to follow the PKGBUILD file and build it :) https://...

Re: Option to change Lock Screen background?
MATE or Cinnamon?
I presume this is MATE we're discussing here, because Cinnamon uses the Desktop Background as the wallpaper background wallpaper.

Re: Switch to SystemD
IMHO, systemd must not be used. http://boycottsystemd.org/ mdev is udev alternative. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Mdev Unfortunately, Debian has already confirmed they're moving to systemD, so it won't be long before Ubuntu does. Unless you're into stripping your system down and building initscript...

Re: What are the risks of keeping LM16?
Let me put it this way. Once it becomes unsupported, you should be fine for the most part, unless something like HeartBleed happens again.
So, people using Mint 15, upgrade because you're still vulnerable to HeartBleed.

Re: Mint Firewall and online banking
P.S. My Mint password is only 3 letters. Could this be risky? Meaning that someone remotely hacks my Mint account. If you haven't disabled the services for remote log-ins, then yeah, someone could remotely login into your machine. It would probably take the best part of a few hours to crack the pas...

Re: Does LVM need a /boot to install Grub?
I have read that it needs a /boot meaning i guess it cannot install on MBR. If you are using LVM on LUKS or LVM on LUKS (encrypted LVM) then you need a separate /boot. I'm pretty sure you don't need a separate /boot if you are running plain LVM, though I think a couple of tweaks are needed (the Arc...

Some people still report a noticeable performance improvement with swap, but I stopped using it altogether years ago because I didn't notice any difference with 3GB or more of RAM.

Re: Can't mount my uncleanly unmounted NTFS partition
Some folks get this message when they try to access a partition from Linux that was previously being used in Windows 8. That is because Win8 uses a new form of default hibernation that keeps all open partitions still mounted -- even when Win8 is NOT running. If you're running Win8, you have to disa...

Having a read through, it seems they've just taken their Ubuntu guide and changed all the Ubuntu references for Mint references. Basically, I doubt it's worth following.

Re: Too many editions?
Just wait until the MATE GTK3 port is finished, declared operational and fit for everyday use. Then a shift to having a Cinnamon and MATE edition together on the same LiveCD might actually become a reality. This bits of MATE that have successfully been ported over to GTK3 (terminal, atril and a few ...

Re: LM 13 and ATI Radeon 6410D GPU
OK, first remove xforcevesa from the boot parameters and make sure that nomodeset is set and then boot (you might have to do this in GRUB).
If that fails, then you'll need to boot with the parameter runlevel=3 to get you into getty, log-in, remove fglrx and reboot.

Re: LM 13 and ATI Radeon 6410D GPU
The easiest way to do it is with the fglrx package provided in the "Additional Drivers". If you need updated drivers, add the Xedgers repository. You can download the Linux drivers from the AMD website, but they're not nicely packaged in the .deb format for you to install. These are essent...
