"detecting file systems" hang when installing from USB

I recently tried installing from a USB drive either to an internal hard disk or to another partition on the same USB HDD. Details about why I wanted to do this are on my blog post http://rmprepusb.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/how-to-have-multiple-fully-installed.html I kept running into this issue where i...

Re: can't boot a Mint Cin 17.1 live Sandisk Ultra Fit 3.0 3

Did you compare the MD5 of the ISO that is actually on the Sandisk 32GB USB drive with the expected MD5 to make sure the file was copied correctly?

If it is OK can you try a completely different linux ISO or even a Windows Install ISO?

Re: can't boot a Mint Cin 17.1 live Sandisk Ultra Fit 3.0 3

You should try to boot it using a different system, or better still, using a VM (VBox or QEMU). The error message indicates that once the linux kernel is loaded, it cannot find the USB drive. This could be due to the drivers in Mint, however, if other USB drives work with that same software in the s...

Re: USB Image Writing

The Easy2Boot download has a .sh script in the \_ISO\docs folder for preparing a E2B drive and also a copy of defragfs for making files on a FAT32 partition contiguous. Did defragfs not work? If you have 3 primary partitions, you will not be able to have linux ISOs+persistence menus. You can use a l...

Re: How to make multiboot USB with Easy2Boot in Linux

I can guarantee that your programs did indeed install this and other malware. How do you know it came from my software? Did your virus scanner software report a virus in the download? Did you submit the download to an online virus scanner such as http://www.virustotal.com and did it report it was f...

Hi
I am the author of RMPrepUSB and Easy2Boot - http://www.rmprepusb.com and http://www.easy2boot.com are my sites.
I can assure you that they contain no viruses, malware or crapware of any sort (if you got them from my sites).

Re: Two Debian Distros on One Multi-boot USB

P.S. Does this link http://comptb.cects.com/multi-boot-usb-with-syslinux-and-grub4dos/ help? What the article in the link does, is to use grub4dos to boot to each partition via it's own syslinux boot partition which has been installed onto each partition. I think the problem with syslinux is that wh...

Re: Two Debian Distros on One Multi-boot USB

Hi I am happy to help because other people may also want to do what you want to do, but I am still having difficulties in understanding exactly what you want. You explain in your post about your current menu and boot problems. The menu you show is easily achieved using E2B. Do you want to USB-boot t...

Re: Two Debian Distros on One Multi-boot USB

There are some things I don't understand about what you are trying to achieve? You say you extracted the ISOs - but then say you used fromiso= ?? This is confusing me because if you extract the contents of each ISO, then the fromiso= entry is obviously invalid/useless because that specifies the loca...

Re: Two Debian Distros on One Multi-boot USB

The characters that follow the vmlinuz kernel name are linux kernel parameters or 'cheat codes'. These are passed as a 'string' to the linux kernel when it boots. So all of the parameters such as fromiso= boot=live noeject config quiet vga -- etc etc are nothing to do with grub4dos, grub. grub2, sys...

Re: How to make multiboot USB with Easy2Boot in Linux

For the brave! The latest Easy2Boot v1.54 Beta4 includes a bash shell script which formats a USB drive, copies over the E2B files and runs bootlace to install the grub4dos bootloader. Instructions are in the \_ISO\docs\linux_utils\ReadMe_fmt.sh.txt file. The actual script is called fmt.sh. I have te...

Re: Two Debian Distros on One Multi-boot USB

My http://www.Easy2Boot.com solution can boot pretty much any LiveCD linux ISO directly - just drag-and-drop the ISO onto the USB drive. Any amount of ISOs you like. By using a menu (.mnu file) you can also run about a dozen or so different ISOs all with persistence from the same USB drive (sample ....

Re: Trying to boot with persistence. What's my error?

I think the persistence issue is either close to being solved, or else it is solved, but has revealed a different bug. I re-made the casper-rw file, renamed it, then changed the volume name at a terminal prompt, and my drive G: now appears as CASPER-RW, for the second time after a re-boot , hooray!...

Yep, one distro is easy with Unetbootin. But now try adding 12 linux distros all using casper-rw for persistence using Unetbootin. Then try adding 12 linux distros all booting via UEFI with persistence using Unetbootin.....

Re: Trying to boot with persistence. What's my error?

Hi If you used RMPrepUSB to create the ext2 file, why do you talk about gparted? if the mnu file runs without any warning, then it means that the persistence file \mint-rw (of some sort) must exist. But does it have a volume label of casper-rw? Boot to bash linux shell and check using blkid command ...

Re: Howto Boot & Run Linux Mint 17 from USB on a PC with no

You can add multiple linux ISOs to an Easy2Boot multiboot USB drive and boot them with persistence. For persistence, you need to create an ext2 file for each one. You can even have an ISO which boots using different persistence files - e.g. one for Harry, one for John, etc. but all using the same IS...

Re: Trying to boot with persistence. What's my error?

So have you used the menu
linuxmint-16-cinnamon-dvd-32bit_Persistent.mnu

Did you follow the instructions inside it?

The volume label must be casper-rw - did you set the volume label of the ext2 file?

maybe try command

e2label /dev/sdb3 casper-rw

(adjust b to match the E2B drive)
