Re: [SOLVED] How to remove fonts unrelated to the OS language?

OK, I did not know this rule. However, it is not that old and is one of the first answers spat out by the search engine so I figured it might help others looking for this advice. If you don't want people to "necrobump" you should automatically close and archive what you consider old threads not prin...

Re: [SOLVED] How to remove fonts unrelated to the OS language?

You might want to include "fonts-smc-*" to the list.
I don't know if it is mint 19 specific but it is in my build for some reason.

Re: Kaffeine on Linux Mint19 w/ Mate minor problem!

So, maybe it is something peculiar with my stockland hill transponder then?
Are you using an Astrometa USB DVB-T2 device also?

Kaffeine on Linux Mint19 w/ Mate minor problem!

Hi, I've been using Kaffeine on my PC for a long time. Until recently I have not been able to get the DVB-T2 demodulator working. I've fixed that issue now and I have several HD channels. However, I cannot read the program guide for the HD channels. It displays rubbish instead of text. Anyone found ...

Script to command multiple ssh windows.

I have written a simple .sh script which opens a new window for each of a list of machines I want to SSH into. It works fine as does my shutdown script. I cannot find a way to enter each already open terminal windows and issue a command from a script. I know wmctrl -r can change focus to the require...

Re: Links on desktop changed to executable after reboot!

Thanks for that very logical and clear explanation Karlchen. Nothing to worry about with the link permissions then. I should probably mention that I created this link just after install and before update. So, maybe something in the update changed its behaviour? I did notice however, that the execute...

Re: Links on desktop changed to executable after reboot!

OK, but this is a link not a folder. Surely the same convention does not apply?

Ok. Its doing it again!

I've included an image of the desktop to show you.

Re: Links on desktop changed to executable after reboot!

It changed to a text file icon with the arrow and the X on it. In properties it said run as executable and root ownership. Strange no? I have changed nothing in the system but for about ten reboots it did it. Now the icon is a normal folder/link icon but it still says run as executable. And I cannot...

Links on desktop changed to executable after reboot!

Mint Mate 18.1 I have a link to my music folder on the desktop. It keeps changing to an executable every reboot! WTH is going on? I've tried searching the forum for this problem but too many non-related entries come up. And there is, as yet, too few entries on Google in relation to mint 18.1. Someon...

Battery statistics refresh rate how to change?

Hi, I don't know if this should go here or not but a search found no results!

Is there a way to increase the refresh rate of the gnome-power-statistics data?

Also I wanted to ask where gnome-power-statistics gets its data?

Thanks.

Java app menus closing instantly?

I am running Linux Mint 13 with mate and am relatively new to Linux. I have a problem with a Java app, Arduino IDE! Some of you will know it well and probably know the answer to this but I have been Googling for weeks now and finally gave up and decided to ask someone else. Arduino IDE will not allo...

Re: Why MD5 error with LM13 install DVD?

They aren't talking about the functionality of the software to suit the target system. They are talking about a utility that can tell you whether the disk is any good or not. If the disk is corrupted, then even if you have the right hardware it will be a botched install. And then you've just wasted...

Re: Is Kerberos an essential or can I remove it?

Thanks guys! That is exactly the type of information I was after! What I want to know now is; why, if lots of other applications rely on Kerboros, does MIT's own description of Kerboros NOT mention this little factoid? If it had said this on MIT's site I would not have had to ask the question in the...

Is Kerberos an essential or can I remove it?

I don't like having stuff on my system that I will never use! I came across a rather large application, MIT's Kerberos, that by reading the developers description, I will never use! Unless, it is used in the background by other apps! I cannot find anything about its necessity or not! Any ideas? Larry

Re: software update trying to remove all installed packages

Weird! I guess it has something to do with compatibility of dependencies then. Even still, it is not the kind of activity that we should expect without some kind of warning! Have you checked how the preferences are set up in Update manager between machines? It could be they are set up differently! O...

Hi Exo30. Welcome. You are probably expecting someone who knows everything about Linux Mint to answer your question right? Not this time! I am similar to yourself having been a Linux user for the goodly part of 2 months. My advice to you, gleaned from my first month of Linux, DON'T! Unless your enjo...

If you take a look at Download/All Versions on the site you will see that the distro Lisa has been Obsolete since April.

Hope you are not too disappointed!

What is System-V and why do I have one?

Hi, I've been installing level 3 upgrades one or two at a time to (Hopefully) maintain stability. I'm doing this because when I installed all that was suggested with the very first install I loaded, my PC would not boot at all. I've got to a strange one called "System-V" which is apparently one of t...
