Solved: LMDE5 Can't connect to Windows share

I have just installed LMDE5 and wanted to connect to a Windows share (HDD on a WDTV Live) like I did on my LMDE3 (in Nemo "Connect to Server" and then the IP of the WDTV Live box as Windows share). However all I get is the error message: "Failed to retrieve share list from server: Sof...

AV1 codec for LMDE3?

I'm looking for an AV1 codec for LMDE3/Debian Stretch. I've come across libaom0, but that is only for Buster and Sid and I haven't found anything similar for Stretch.

Re: Cannot Install NVIDIA Driver

In order to install from backports you need to specify "stretch-backports" and the package name in the apt-get command. Please find the instructions for installing from backports in the following link: https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/

Re: Cant boot with LMDE install HP Laptop

I think I had a similar issue with my HP laptop. However, it wasn't dual boot but a fresh standalone install. LMDE3 installed just fine but the system couldn't find a boot device when booting from the HDD. Booting from the live cd and then selecting my HDD installation worked. It finally turned out ...

Re: LMDE3 Live Boot hangs

Update: Unfortunately it's a hardware issue. I used some system diagnostics software from the manufacturer and found out there is a problem with the storage controller. System will boot successfully from time to time and then run stable until the next boot. Seems like I need to get the main board fi...

Re: No WiFi connection possible

Update: I tried another run of the Live Session of LMDE3 but this time edited NetworkManager.conf right at the start of the session and configured my wireless connection afterwards. Now I get a stable network connection to my network. I will mark this thread solved for the time being.

[Solved] No WiFi connection possible

I tried to load the LMDE3 Live Session on a HP 8760w notebook with some problems and finally got it to work. However, the WiFi will not connect. I tried the workaround with disabling the random MAC in NetworkManager but could not get the wireles to connect to my network. Just out of curiosity, I boo...

Re: LMDE3 Live Boot hangs

Quick update: I got the system booted in "compatibility mode". During boot at the same step the boot process experienced some problems but didn't hang this time. Tried to find the error or problem through "dmesg" but there were no errors listed. So I'm a bit puzzled right now.

[Solved - hardware defect] LMDE3 Live Boot hangs

I have tried to boot LMDE3 on my HP 8760w in vain. The boot process hangs right after the line [ ok ] Started Raise network interfaces. at the line [* ](1 of 4) A start job is running for /dev/loop0 (19s / 1min 30s) I did boot the Live session with the parameter "nomodeset". I can't give a...

Re: LMDE Users

Not bad indeed. This looks a lot more promising than the figures from rbeltz48.

Mate should be a tad lower than that, provided Cinnamon can be removed completely when changing the DE to Mate. I haven't bothered changing DE's yet since Mint provided a Mate version of the OS so far.

Re: LMDE Users

To: rbeltz48 - I'm not too concerned about memory usage. My current system is an older mobile workstation and I could upgrade to a max. of 8GB if needed. I'm more concerned about reliable hardware support (Core 2 Duo, Nvidia Quadro and Intel WIFI). Nevertheless, with your experience in mind, I get t...

Re: Kernel Update 4.9 briefly in Update Manager

I doubt LMDE2 will ever get a 4-series kernel. Actually, LMDE2 does have the 4.9 kernel in backport. The OP does have the backport repo in the inxi result post above. Maybe the hiccup comes from that but wherever it came from it has happened to me before. [...] Yes, backport is still in the sources...

Re: LMDE Users

Well, I was quite happy with Mint 13 (Ubuntu Precise 12.04). After moving to Mint 17 (LTS for Mint 13 ran out) I was confronted with an increasing incompatibility of Mint 17 and my dated hardware. For that reason I moved to LMDE2 and am quite content with its stability, speed and support for my hard...

I have just received the Thunderbird 52.9.1 Update (Level 1 security update) from the Debian Security repository through Update Manager. I'm on LMDE2 Mate 64-bit.

Re: Kernel Update 4.9 briefly in Update Manager

Hello Karl,

Debian Stretch has Kernel 4.9. Might it be possible that there was a hiccup with the Debian repositories and I got offered updates for Stretch instead of Debian Jessie (LMDE2)?

Re: Kernel Update 4.9 briefly in Update Manager

Hello Karl, I am using LMDE2 Mate 64-bit. Kernel 4.9 update appeared as Level 4 Update in Update Manager along with a very extensive list of Level 1 + 2 updates and a few Level 4 security updates for Kernel 3.16. System: Host: nb-8730w Kernel: 3.16.0-6-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: MATE 1.18.0 Dist...

Kernel Update 4.9 briefly in Update Manager

Today Update Manager offered an extensive list of Level 1 and 2 updates. However, among the offered kernel updates were also updates to Kernel 4.9. After a refresh, I installed the Kernel 3.16 updates, they were gone again. Was this a hiccup or a preview of things to come?

I don't think Wine is a workable solution for Fusion 360 for some time to come ....

Re: I am having trouble installing VMWARE on Linux Mint Debian Edition

"Free of charge" is not the same as free software. I'm aware of that, but I can use it non-commercially without legal implications. Do you want to imply, that Debian prohibits the installation of proprietary software? I haven't used VMWare on Debian yet (presently no need for it) but inst...

AFAIK, VMWare Player is free of charge for private use.
