Okay, I did solve it. Although I did it a little different from how you described it. Hi, Kind of embarrassing: after playing around with Mint 16 I added a second account and set both accounts to user, thinking that sudo would still give me full rights. However, it doesn't: I can't update, and trying "sudo su" in the terminal tells me: chris@chris-desktop ~ $ sudo su [sudo] password ...
