Calm / Mellow Cinnamon System Sounds? (And file permissions question.)

Can anyone suggest some system sounds that are very calm / mellow (and quiet) for Cinnamon desktop? I know I can turn off particular system sounds. But I would like to keep some of them. Just something very calm and quiet, like synth pads or even nature sounds (please don't laugh). Secondly, how can...

Re: Best Way To Update a Computer I Won't Be Near? (Remote access vs other)

1) Teamviewer has always been a good choice. i used to use Teamviewer and it worked well until they started bugging me with "commercial use detected" and then not letting me use it. Many people have had the same problem. I then moved to Anydesk which works just as well, if not better, and...

Re: Netgear USB Wireless Not Working: WNDA3100 v2

I had this issue with this broadcom chip in this adapter., try the easy tips first, but what i had to do was use ndiswrapper as a windows driver converter. first set your wine to a newer version of windows than xp or vista. i will look for the link...here is a link to debian, first one i saw https:...

Re: Netgear USB Wireless Not Working: WNDA3100 v2

I've only found old info on that adapter, but they all say you need to use the ndiswrapper for it to work. Even then, it may not work well. Of course, there might be something more recent than I could find. Thanks. I will be able to try that again on Thursday. Right now I have a pci wireless adapte...

 mokutil --sb-state
Yes, secure boot is disabled.

Code: Select all

Re: Netgear USB Wireless Not Working: WNDA3100 v2

Arrrggghhhh.... I just realized that the USB wireless dongle was actually NOT working on my two other Linux mint boxes. But it IS working on my Win 10 boxes. Which makes sense because I downloaded the drivers for win 10 directly from netgear. I did try running this command several times on all THREE...

Re: Netgear USB Wireless Not Working: WNDA3100 v2

Yeah - - try that item at step e & reboot, as it said if that doesn't work, you can remove it again, with the 1st part of that same command. Ok, I did try both parts of that code in part E. After I rebooted and ran the first part of the code again, this is what I got: sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-k...

2) I have two other Linux boxes and this dongle works fine on both of those Linux boxes.
It might help to find which driver is being used on those boxes.
I can try. How would I look up which drivers are being used???

Netgear USB Wireless Not Working: WNDA3100 v2

Hi Folks: Just installed Mint 20 Cinamon and now my Netgear USB Wireless dongle is not working. It is WNDA3100 v2 I am certain that this dongle works because: 1) It was working fine when I was booting in to windows on this same machine, and 2) I have two other Linux boxes and this dongle works fine ...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

OK, well, I officially gave up... And by gave up, I mean that I went to our local computer recylcer on the "bad" side of town, and got a used 1TB 3.5inch HD for $30 So I'll just keep the drives separate. I'll install Mint and maybe another Distro on this new (used) drive and keep the old d...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

Separate disk for Linux. Sure, that'll work, provided you only attach one disk or the other at a time. Have seen folks refer to setting up a switch of some sort to do the same thing, but don't recall details. One thing about this: I really don't want it to necessarily be a "dual boot" sys...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

both Operating systems are less than 50Gb in real size, but you should give 4 -5 times that amount, to each system. :) but2, since it's an Legacy System .. split the HDD into 50/50 and leave it at that. but3, on my Desktop machine, with it's 2Tb HDD, & it's split three ways .. with an extra DAT...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

Shrinking C: partition. See zcot's suggestion. Alternatively, you can leave the data files on the C: partition. Linux can access them there just as easily as on a separate data partition. Just be careful not to fiddle with any Windows system files. Windows reclaiming MBR. That particular problem is...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

I am including a screen shot of the Windows 10 Disk Management tool. As you can see, it looks like there is one drive with two partitions on it. 1) a system reserved 500 MB NTFS partition, and 2) a 931GB NTFS partition. The key question is, by how much is Disk Management willing to shrink the C: pa...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

So I did a live boot in to Mint 20 and when I used gparted to look at the harddrive, it said basically the same thing as the Disk Manager in windows said, just the two partitions. However it did say soemthing about an unallocated partition that was 1.71Mib. Also, I ran the LSBLK command in the termi...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

If you want to dual boot(or more) easily then you will want to install Mint in the same mode as the existing setup(you are saying it's MBR legacy bios style). You want to make sure the live session is in that same mode before you try installing. Just for some generic numbers here, to convey the ide...

Re: Dual Boot Questions: Partitioning a 1 TB Drive?

Also, after doing some more research, it seems like it would be better to have a data partition as opposed to a separate /home partition, since I would like to share the data files between two different users on Mint 20, and also share the data files with Windows 10 in case I need to boot in to it. ...
