Well, you should probably put it in a terminal. For example, instead of:

/home/skrebel33/superfly_VMs.sh

Try:

gnome-terminal -x /home/skrebel33/superfly_VMs.sh

I compared your udev syntax with mine. Mine has an ACTION key specified (mine is ACTION=="add"). However, I removed that key from my udev configuration file and it continued to work essentially the same way. I like the idea of just putting a shutdown command for the coming Sunday in your startup scripts. I haven't studied Mint's startup yet. But that just seems like a plain nice idea. But cron works too. Totally. I think it is appropriate to put it in the root user's cron table and not the system /etc/c...
