Re: Is this gpu compatible with this mobo?

I would say if the bus on the mobo is compatible with the required bus for that card, you should be good. Can't say because I don't know anything about either of those products. PCIe (express) is the most modern. Here is a page with some examples that might help: https://networking.ringofsaturn.com...

Is this gpu compatible with this mobo?

I'm giving away some old equipment, a computer and a newer separate gpu. I'd like to know if they'd go together, but not sure how to check and am unable to plug in and try right now [and that wouldn't rule out possible PSU limitations which is only 350W]. I don't know what card is currently in that ...

Re: Can a HDD which was "tried to be formated, but failed" be salvaged?

The first thing I would do is open that drive in the Gparted program and create a new partition table - either GPT or msdos. Gparted > Device menu > New partition table I say go for it! People throw away a lot of perfectly good computer equipment simply because they don't know how to make it work, ...

Can a HDD which was "tried to be formated, but failed" be salvaged?

My brother sold me his old windows pc, a while later inside I found a 1TB HDD which wasn't plugged in in addition to the HDD+SSD that was actually plugged in being used. Asking about it, he said he tried to format it [due to a virus but he's unsure due to be so long ago], but it didn't work and beca...

Re: questions on recovering files from a broken computer

> Once you get the GRUB to start the kernel Don't know what this means. But doesn't sound worrying. @austin.texas > read any ext4 partitions Super don't understand what that means. I thought I explained about. I'm not going to mess about with any partitions. I'm just genna have 2 sets of HDD+SSD. 1 ...

questions on recovering files from a broken computer

Hello, I had a hardware failure on my linux machine. CPU+Motherboard. Luckily I already had a replacement lined up, a windows machine. But obviously I'd like my files from my old computer. If I take my old harddrive from my old computer, unplug it, slide it into a drivebay in my new computer, plug i...

Re: Computer unexpectedly shutting down without warning, broken cpu thermometer?

This close to the hardware, you risk mechanical or electrical damage. If you break it, doing it on the cheap, how much would it cost to replace, compared to an insured professional repair? Hot CPU + Cool Heatsink... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_grease ...and it's not impossible for the hea...

Re: Computer unexpectedly shutting down without warning, broken cpu thermometer?

"Throttle" is the CPU as a monolithic chip, hardware, protecting itself. Linux is just reporting what is happening. Almost certainly (0.999999) the CPU silicon is too hot. in addition to my previous comment. i don't know if "throttling" is responsible. it's just a buzz word I us...

Computer unexpectedly shutting down without warning, broken cpu thermometer?

Hiya. Once 2 weeks ago, twice 1 week ago, and trice today my computer has unexpectedly lost power and shut-down. It's just my computer experiencing this, not house-electrics. On rebooting either it loads normally, or fails to boot [blinking white line in top right] where I have to reboot and boot in...

Re: How do I install Steamcmd?

Thank you.

When I was asking you about upgrading to 18 I meant for you to consider the question in a vacuum, separate from the steamcmd issue.

I've decided to not upgrade, since i'm unaware of any advantages currently.

Re: My computer is acting very slow, and struggling to play 1080p videos from file or stream

It may not be as expensive of a repair as you think. You may just need to replace the fan part. It is usually just 4 screws that hold the fan onto the aluminum heat sink, and one wired plugin that plugs into the motherboard. Take it out, and bring it to a computer shop to find a replacement of the ...

Re: My computer is acting very slow, and struggling to play 1080p videos from file or stream

Thank you for the suggestions. Though ralplpcr goes into a lot of technical specifics I don't understand. I'll have to get around to checking at some point, but it's a pain to do the checking process if the fan is spinning so it might not be today. I don't have a lot of disposable income right now, ...

Re: My computer is acting very slow, and struggling to play 1080p videos from file or stream

I cleaned out my pc w/ a dust spray. GPU went from 62 -> 47. There was a lot of dust on it. CPU is still at 98. When I cleaned it, the PC had been turned off for 2 hours to cool down [while I napped]. Turning it on now, it was instantly these temperatures. edit: oh i pinged that command a 2nd time a...

I've never dealt with a PC so hot before. When I open it up to clean, should I be concerned about letting it cool down before blasting it?

Re: My computer is acting very slow, and struggling to play 1080p videos from file or stream

1] My HDD usually floats between 900-1000GB. As I watch media, it fills up and I keep it around to seed. Then I purge it down a few 100's of GB's when it's nearly full. Can a full HDD slow down a PC? Or is this just an incidental warning? 2] Damn. That's a lot. I'm surprised my pc is still functiona...
