Re: Has anything happened to the apt repositories?

Same story on my end. I was doing my weekly update process and a fair number of Ubuntu mirrors are just unresponsive.

Also, if you're having trouble with .sh files, be sure that they are marked as executable.

Code: Select all

chmod +x myShFile.sh
Then to execute the file, if you have to do so,

Code: Select all

./myShFile.sh
Be sure to note the period and the slash preceding the file. It is necessary for being able to run the SH.

Re: Cinnamon alongside Windows 7 Laptop

You could boot the live disk, mount your hard drive(s), then do an osprobe followed by an update-grub.

Re: System Tray Icons Missing.....

The update manager is the last icon to load for me after I boot. While it occupies space on my System Tray applet, it appears blank until the system actually decides to load it. Is there a blank space where it should be, or are you simply seeing no icons in the System Tray? On KDE, I had to modify m...

Re: Firefox wouldn't load in Mint 11.How do I install Firef

Open a console, and issue:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge firefox && sudo apt-get install firefox
Try those out and see if it helps.

Re: Live CD install screen without 'Mint 15 logo',just text.

Linux Mint uses a custom proprietary driver manager that you can use to pick a driver other than Nouveau, which is the generic graphics driver that *should* work properly for most cards, but there are exceptions based on which flavor of mint you're using and your card. The flavor of Mint refers to w...

Re: Can't get into BIOS after installing Petra Mate

I'm not sure if this would be an issue directly related to having installed Mint. It almost sounds like your motherboard's ROM is either faulty or failing, considering you're having issues accessing the storage for your BIOS. You might try flashing your BIOS?

Re: LM16 does not boot into login screen

I'm not entirely sure about the memory usage. However, before you boot into Mint, press e (I think) on the line that is highlighted, then edit the boot command. Remove quiet and splash from the string, then press Ctrl+X to boot using these options. You'll be able to get some sort of error message th...

Re: Upgrade from Mint15(64) to Mint16(64), now error at GRUB

I attempted an in-place upgrade on my desktop from Mint 15 KDE to Mint 16 KDE RC. There's certainly an issue with mdm when upgrading like this. A completely fresh install solves it, as it wipes out any previous configuration. I attempted purging mdm and reinstalling it from a console only login, but...

Re: No wired or wireless connection :(

Not a problem. I went up to the Mint 16 KDE RC, and I'm enjoying it. Still haven't gotten around to trying MATE, but I think I'll be sticking with KDE for awhile, as long as Ubuntu doesn't pull the rug out from under Mint.

Re: Live CD install screen without 'Mint 15 logo',just text.

This happens when I change the video driver from the open nouveau driver to a proprietary nvidia one. Do you have Linux Mint KDE installed by chance? There's a package you can install to very easily get the logo back.

Re: BIOS only boots Linux Mint now

Do you recall which disk you installed Grub to? If Windows is on your primary HD, it likely is /dev/sda in Linux's partitioning manager. If you say you installed Mint to your third hard drive, I assume it was installed to /dev/sdc? So, you put GRUB on /dev/sda, and BIOS is pointing to that disk to b...

Re: Mint16 & LVM Grub Rescue no such device

It could be BIOS related. I have multiple disks as well, and if I point BIOS to startup with the disk that doesn't have grub on it, I hit an initramfs prompt.

Re: Teamviewer popup message

There's none that I know of. It annoys me to no end as well, but something you could do is create a virtual desktop window, move TV to it, and then leave it in its maximized state. That's the only way that bubble doesn't show. I emailed the TV team about it directly, and they said something to the e...

How large are those library directories? You could always use a cloud solution like Dropbox. An ex girlfriend pointed me to it around a year ago and I've used it ever since. It's great for synching up my library of programming references across multiple devices so I don't even have to think about it.

Re: No wired or wireless connection :(

Search for Atheros and Intel Wifi and Ethernet both, since inxi didn't really make a distinction between the two. If you can locate the drivers in a .deb package, you may install that using GDebi, which runs when you simply double click a .deb file. I did that and put the driver on a USB stick so th...

This is precisely the reason why I strictly do self builds for desktops, and have a copy of Windows 7 laying around. I formatted my laptop completely, which had Vista on it, and installed 7. I've upgraded 2 machines from Win8 to Win7 for people I know already, and will not hesitate to offer to do so...

Re: No wired or wireless connection :(

You may need to create a live USB stick with persistence, then download a package or two containing the drivers for your networking components. The forum member gold_finger has a good handle on such a process, so I would search through their recent posts for a tutorial. APTonCD is another option, bu...

I actually downloaded a grub configuration package for KDE, but I'm fairly certain one exists for Gnome, and thus Cinnamon. The package was kde-config-grub2. It allowed me to resize the boot splash.

Re: problems with PEAP

I suspect this may be related to the inner authentication of PEAP. There's MSCHAP, MD5, and GTC. Verify what the inner authentication method is and then try that.
