Re: Possibly a bug...?

Thanks f3ktony for your response, but I have probably not made my intentions here sufficiently clear. I was canvassing the issue because I wasn't sure if it was a known feature that might eg. simply require a suitable system tweak, or instead if it represented a generic problem (in either case relat...

Re: A (big) fly in the ointment...

I made the thinkpad_acpi tweak but still no OSD appears for the volume buttons. According to the supplied reference, that is as expected with pulseaudio loaded, apparently. (OSD works for the screen brightness, but I don't know if that changed with the tweak since I hadn't tried it before the change...

Re: A (big) fly in the ointment...

Haven't had time yet to try any more of those interesting suggested tweaks, but the symptoms seem very reproducible: boot up: sound fine enter/exit standby: sound burbles logoff/login: sound fine again So whatever unfortunate state the (hardware+software) system is getting into because of standby, i...

Re: Possibly a bug...?

My system does go into suspend (maually and on timeout) when a user (any user) is logged-in. It's just when =no= user is logged-in that suspend doesn't function. But in that situation, what configuration in fact applies? Is there a default somewhere...? (Aside: This machine has 2GB of RAM, and has a...

Re: A (big) fly in the ointment...

Thanks for your further suggestions. Alas, the first attempt didn't succeed - all was fine until the laptop entered/exited standby, after which the burbling returned. Taking a first scan through the (many!) sound problem reports affecting the Thinkpad T60 and other laptops, I see others mentioning s...

Possibly a bug...?

I'm just a newbie with Mint/Cinnamon, so this may possibly apply more widely than Cinnamon alone, or may instead be some well-known "feature", but on my laptop at least, the system won't enter standby when no user is logged-in, ie. when the login screen is showing. ("Won't" both from closing the lid...

Re: A (big) fly in the ointment...

Oh, many thanks! Tried your first suggestion just now re sound configuration and first impressions are very promising indeed. You may have saved the day! We'll see how that pans out after some more user testing, and if all remains well I'll update the posting title accordingly. (I had already tried ...

A (big) fly in the ointment...

Hello, I've just done my first install of Mint (16)/Cinnamon on my daughter's laptop (Thinkpad T60) as a trial evaluation. (She's hoping to move on from you-know-what.) I was very impressed with how smoothly the install all went, and at first everything seemed to be running just peachy. However, we ...

Re: Thinkpad T60 wireless not working

Very sorry that it wasn't as simple as I suspected. But it ought to work, because I'm currently trying out Mint16/Cinnamon with a Thinkpad T60 (model 2008 UX5) and WiFi was working from the get-go without any problem. However, it may possibly depend on the particular WiFi daughterboard that is insta...

Re: Thinkpad T60 wireless not working

Please forgive my stating the obvious (since we all still manage to overlook it sometimes), but given that your wireless device's status includes Tx-Power=off this makes me wonder if you remembered to power the wireless on via the slide switch at the front...? It's only when wireless is switched off...

Re: How to install with manual partitioning

Much obliged for your response, xenopeek. Re: partitioning, that's just the info and reassurance I needed. (As to organising where apps expect to find stuff, clearly I'm going to have to guddle about with that post-install, =laugh= but that's beyond the scope of this topic...!)

Re: How to install with manual partitioning

Being a neo-newbie at Linux (was an ordinary Unix user many moons ago when the terminal window wasn't a window!), and preparing to attempt a sensible first install, I want to create a separate top-level "/data" partition for use as a distinct sub-tree for all user files, but what's not clear to me f...
