Re: Unetbootin liveusb LMDE wont start X

More info: There is no X as described above in compatibility mode.

If I use normal mode, I get a desktop for a brief interval then it freezes and will not respond until I power off. Not even to Magic Sysreq keys

Mint Debian Uk Mirror and torrent down?

I just tried to download the Mint Debian ISO from both the torrent link and the UK mirror and found that neither of these is actually working.

~No peers on the torrent. The UK mirror just goes to a 404.

I have got it from the Irish mirror, but I thought it should be noted so that it may be fixed.

Re: Intel 915 mobile gpu - no compiz

OK thanks.

Didnt find much in their wiki, what i did find required editting the now none-existant xorg.conf and/or installing 915resolution, so i've dropped a post on their forums too.

Any fix i find or am offered there i'll post back here.

Xorg update was installed 11th of Feb. it installed:
xserver-xorg-core
xserver-xorg-input-all
xorg
xserver-xorg-video-all
xserver-xorg

No intel specific

Should i ask apt-get to snag it?

Re: Thinkpad z60t fingerprint reader support?

Bump!

I got the mint updater working by running synaptic and having it reload its lists.

As to the gksu issue, it works with the fingerprint, i figured out. Its only failing with the password.

Thinkpad z60t fingerprint reader support?

I have just purchased a Corp refurb z60t and am trying to get the fingerprint reader working in Mint8, mostly for the new toy factor. I found out about Thinkfinger, installed it, added the requisite entries to /etc/pam.d/common-auth, but now GKSU and mint-update fail silently. It isnt the problem i ...

Hey, very nice theme, and that blue is perfect with my kitty wallpaper, so I am now using it too!

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Must be to do with it being Winter, everyone is doing Black and Blue. Including me. Here's my theme de jour, as worn by my lovely 'new' widescreen laptop (Just needs the Mint menu graphic from KDE edition to be perfect, IMO) http://i218.removed/albums/cc291/confusedbrit/Screenshot-4.png Theme compri...

Thanks Dean, I'll look into that.

Unfortunately that deb says my GTK2 is too low a version so I guess its time to activate the LXDE PPA.

Heres hoping nothing breaks!

Mint Update Autostart on other DEs without gksu request

I have recently changed my DE from Gnome to LXDE on my laptop, and finally configured most of it to how i'd like. Trying to have Mintupdate check for updates when i boot is however, not going as smoothly as it did in Gnome. Instead of silently loading checking for updates, and reporting in the syste...

Re: looking to install Windows 7 on other hard drive

I can answer the second question. Definately unplug the second drive.

Windows assumes it is the sole OS and will overwrite GRUB if you do not.
http://blog.firetree.net/2005/08/26/duel-boot-windows-with-grub/ tells you how to boot from GRUB afterwards.

Having a major issue with mint 7 standard livecd = solved

Ok, i've now downloaded and burnt Livecd twice. at slowest speed my drive is capable of, but I cannot boot into a useable environment. Mint seems to think its working fine, as I see the mint splashscreen and then the screen goes black and i hear the chime, but then, instead of drawing the desktop, i...

Re: Is this doable? Maybe not in Mint but in linux?

I would like to but these people are pretty technophobic. These are the people you come across who dont update the AV if it nags incase it breaks something, so i had to find one to silently update for them... They have heard about Linux and are terrified of it. This is a long term project right now,...
