Re: Clonezilla fix (yes, it's broken)
I'm using it to backup other drives (from other computers), and it's inconvenient to have to reboot to use Clonezilla for that.

Re: Clonezilla fix (yes, it's broken)
Okay, I spent the better part of the night installing tools, dependencies, and gathering all the missing bits I'd need to build an updated version of partclone, and while I was looking for yet another missing library, I found .deb files for the latest stable versions of drbl, partclone and clonezill...

Re: Clonezilla fix (yes, it's broken)
Guess I spoke too soon. My fix seems to work for making backups, but when I tried to restore an image today it failed, even though the image was fine. Clonezilla successfully restored the first partition, but then fails on the second partition. However, if I just use the test function to verify the ...

1. What are you trying to open?
2. Why are you trying to open it with admin rights?
3. How are you doing it (or trying, anyway)?

Re: USB sound card 0% volume is not bottom
What kind of speakers are you using? Assuming amplified, is the volume low on the speakers? I'm using a Fiio Olympus E10 USB DAC with Altec Lansing ADA880 speakers, and if my speakers are turned up loud I can hear sound with the volume almost all the way down, but if my speakers are set at less than...

Clonezilla fix (yes, it's broken)
I know most of you probably use Clonezilla from a live boot (Clonezilla-live, Parted Magic, etc.), but if you happen to try it from within Linux Mint 17.x LTS (or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) it will not work. Examining the output and logs will reveal that Partclone aborts with an invalid option -z error. This...

Re: Update Manager and the Red ""X"
As stated above, without any error message specifics, we can't really do anything but guess. My guess would be that you are using the google chrome browser. If you are using the 32-bit version of chrome, google is no longer supporting it and you need to switch to another browser. https://forums.linu...

To install chromium browser... sudo apt-get install chromium-browser sudo apt-get install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra sudo apt-get install chromium-browser-l10n The last two add A/V codecs for content playback, and additional language support (if you want those). Once you log into your google accou...

Re: Update manager issue
As I said above... Google has dropped support for the 32-bit version of chrome. Time to switch to another browser. If you like chrome, you could try chromium browser (the open source browser that chrome is based on). Firefox is another popular alternative. See this announcement for more info. https:...

Re: After moving /home to a new drive need help merging the old /home space to /root
In principle you have to do this from the live system. For more detailed info a screenshot showing sda in gparted is needed. This ^ Without knowing your current partition layout, we'll all just be guessing. Assuming you have something like the following: /dev/sda1 / /dev/sda2 /home /dev/sda3 swap /...

Re: Update manager issue
Oh, and for 64-bit users getting an error when updating their repositories, you can fix that by editing the sources list entry for chrome. sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list Add [arch=amd64] after deb, as follows: deb [arch=amd64] http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main...

If you choose it in the file manager it will get mounted with udev/udisks to /media/yourname/something_or _other Otherwise it should be ignored. Yup, what he said. It will not get mounted automatically. If you want it to auto-mount in Linux you can add an entry to the /etc/fstab file to mount it at...

Re: I think i formatted my entire hard drive to Linux wiped win10
Great advice Lolo! Are you using EasyBCD to manager your boot loader on your multi OS machine? I was getting ready to install Mint on a machine that I have dual booted to Windows 10/OpenSUSE. Any advice as this will be my first attempt at a multi OS machine? Thanks No, I'm just using the default Gr...

Re: Wiped out my Windows OS
If you are burning a DVD from Windows I'd suggest a program called, ImgBurn . It's free and works well for burning bootable CD or DVD media. When burning the ISO to disc make sure your are writing the ISO data to the disc, and not just burning the file itself to a data disc. If you look at the burne...

Re: I think i formatted my entire hard drive to Linux wiped win10
Boot the Linux Mint install media and use Gparted to create a new GPT partition table. If you have more than one hard drive or SSD in your system, make sure the correct device is selected from the drop down list on the upper right. CAUTION: This will wipe all data from the drive! If there is any dat...

Re: Burn to Flash Drive
If your DVD and USB drive are not showing as bootable media it could be the way they are being written. You can't just copy the *.ISO file to the media. You must burn the contents of the ISO to the media with a utility that can create bootable media. USB image writer should have worked, though. :? Y...

Re: Wiped out my Windows OS
Yes, as others have already pointed out, Linux Mint is a complete, stand-alone OS. You do not need Windows or any other software on your computer to install and use Mint. You just need to make a bootable Mint DVD or USB drive to start your computer with, and from there you will be able to install Mi...
