Re: Help installing Plasma on XFCE 19.2

Yes, I followed all the steps in the walkthrough, added the ppa. If you read that walkthrough, in the comments, someone at the bottom posted the same error. I have tried Neon and have a few VM's running Kubuntu. I was just trying to get this working since I like that mint has 4 years of support and ...

Help installing Plasma on XFCE 19.2

I installed Mint 19.2 XFCE and am trying to install KDE and then remove XFCE. I installed 19.2, ran all updates, then tried following this walkthrough: https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-kde-plasma-desktop-on-linux-mint-19/ I get the following error: sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop Readin...

Re: Help connecting to Win7 share

Does look a bit complicated.

I have a VM with mint 18.3. I was able to install the samba components and a utility smb4k and get it working there. Couldn't get the same utility working on the laptop with 19.1.

Probably easier to setup filezilla on the win7 PC and connect using FTP.

Help connecting to Win7 share

I did a clean install of Mint 19.1 cinnamon on my laptop and can't access a share on a windows 7 PC. The share is accessible from other windows PC's. I've read a few walkthroughs on getting samba working, but still stuck. I found a command to install samba: sudo apt-get install samba Now if I enter:...

Re: Screensaver - 3 hours?

suicide king, It will respect the time delay you set per smurphos' instructions. However, if its like Mint 18.x, if you click on a new time selection in the dropdown list in the screensaver preferences, it will wipe it out and you'll have to issue the terminal command again. It won't change a visib...

Re: Screensaver - 3 hours?

Which Desktop Environment? If Cinnamon you can use the terminal command gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session idle-delay 10800 to set an idle-delay before screensaver activation of 3 hrs (10800 seconds). Double check your power settings are compatible with this aswell - e.g. there's no point h...

Go to Menu (lower left), Preferences, Screensaver. You can adjust the slider there & a few other options. On my Mint 18, the slider max is 2 hours.
I'm using Mint 19 with Cinnamon. Max on the slider is 1 hour.

Screensaver - 3 hours?

Is there a way to change the time on the screensaver to longer than an hour? I want it to lock if I'm gone for 3 hours or so. Not if I go to lunch or a meeting.

That worked for me too, thanks for posting.

It does seem to take a long time though.

Re: Which laptop Mini PCIE wireless card?

Sorry don't know enough about network cards to give you an educated answer. My fix is to swipe a Netgear [N+]dongle off one of the other computers in the house long enough to get the Broadcomm drivers to download. Renting so couldn't hard wire, so I just got dongles for everyone in the house.;) Roo...

Which laptop Mini PCIE wireless card?

I have a Dell XPS M1330 with a Broadcomm card. I always have trouble getting it working with each new version. Worked fine in Mint 15, doesn't work in 16. So I want to buy a new card. Should I get an Intel or Artheros? Please list what card you have and/or suggest. I need it to be the longer mini ca...

Re: Wireless help b43 chipset

What I usually do in these cases is physically remove the crappy wifi card and replace it with one from Atheros (which "just works" because the drivers are integrated in the kernel). Wifi cards are a joke to replace, and Dell does not enforce retarded BIOS restrictions on their hardware like HP doe...

Re: Wireless help b43 chipset

Sounds like a good idea. That wifi card has been a pain. If anyone knows of a decent low profile usb wifi key, please post. It's for a laptop, so would like to keep it small. Something like this would be perfect: http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Micro-Wireless-Adapter-TEW-648UBM/dp/B004D41ECW/ref=pd_s...

Wireless help b43 chipset

I just wiped and reinstalled, put Mint 16 on. In Mint 15, all I needed was one command to get the wireless working: sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer In 15, I entered that command, rebooted and wireless worked flawlessly. Think I may have installed the firmware in 15 as well. This time, no...

Re: Gparted question

You can never increase windows partition into the unllocated partition, why? because the windows partition is a primary partition and unllocated partition is a logical partition, they NEVER merge. Your data is backed up? Then it's easy, you reinstall everything from scratch, resizing partitions cor...

Re: Gparted question

Thanks all for the help so far. So I booted back to my install USB key: It wouldn't let me move the unpartitioned space to the left side (next to the Windows partition). However, i was able to resize the Linux partition and make the space available at the beginning as in the current screen shot. It ...

Gparted question

I need to resize my partitions, need to make the Windows 7 NTFS partition larger. So I figured out how to use Gparted by booting to my installation USB key. I was able to resize the Linux partition and free up 20GB. I've tried in Windows and Gparted and am unable to add the 20GB to the NTFS partitio...

Screen Dim TImeout

Hey all,
First post here! I switched from Ubuntu to Mint 15 and like Mint a lot more. Seems more responsive.

So noob question:

Where can I find the settings for screen dim timeout? I did a google search which said to install dconf-editor, but the settings it said to look for weren't there.
