I don't know what's the problem either :? Under windows I had no problem - after I changed the net card, I just entered my new settings and it was all well. In Linux however I did the same - no internet at all. The worst thing is, as I mantioned - I tried to boot from the Live CD and enter the setti...

I think this is in GNOME. I'm not sure where it is in KDE, but when I type

ping 208.67.220.220

in the terminal, it says smth. like

ping: pingmsg: operation not permitted

So this is the internet connection at my workplace, which is a construction site. It's a sattelite dish, pointing to a near town. This is how it works, so I'm not sure what type it is. But when the people from the provider fixed the dish, they left me a note with the settings - I have to enter manua...

Network problem in kdeCE

Hi, I recently installed Mint kdeCE. My internet provider gave me settings for the connection (ip, gate, mask and dns) to enter in the pc. Everything was going well. But my ethernet adapter broke down so I had to replace it. So, I replaced it, entered my settings from the provider and... nada. Not w...

I have another question - how can I GET RID OF the windows partitions on the desktop? I want them just to be in /media - I don't need shortcuts for them because I don't need them so often.

I unchecked the box in mintDisk for the shortcuts, but they're still there :?

2 things I'd like to see in the software portal are the following: ImageMagick http://www.imagemagick.org/ It's a program for mass editing pictures - very very handy. Only problem is that it is terminal based. But all the commands are in the website and once you do it couple of times you get used to...

I really really like them. Very good job! 8) Just one thing is bugging me - the icon for the archives. IMHO the poison green just doesn't fit with an archive :? Other than that - thumbs up :!: I'd love to see them as default icons in Casandra  edit: one morething - I think I'll be nice to add ...

For playing music I use "Exaile!" On my descent old machine it runs better than Amarok. It pretty much has the same functions as Amarok, but lacks the looks :) I personally hope that this will change in time. Another great application is "Life Rea" for RSS feeds. Xara Extreme IMHO is better than Ink...

GNOME works better for me. All the Ks in KDE just pull my nerves. It's too Windowsish. And personally I don't think that there's something that you can't tweak in GNOME. The looks of GNOME suits my tastes better. And the networking isn't really that bad as a lot of people say. I downloaded and insta...

So - I fixed my problem.
I simply "completely remove"ed from Synaptic the following packages:

samba
samba-common
smbclient
smbfs

And then installed them again :)

After this procedure I can browse the other pcs on the network which are running xp

Hello to everybody here in the forum. I installed Mint a couple of days ago and I felt that I have to give my feedback to the people who make it possible for me to use a great Linux distro without much effords. SO - Great job people :D I'm so happy using Mint that it makes me want to scream. I don't...
