Re: 32bit multilib support in the future

Seriously, backwards compatibility? We have been spoilt in computerland, not that I want that to change. These days if you purchase a new (insert product <snip> If you want to run an old car, you purchase an old car, you don't purchase the latest and greatest and then "retro fit" it to behave like ...

Re: Bye bye i386, Ubuntu is dropping all 32-bit support going forward

Im shocked that people actually argue "whoever uses 32bit software still in this day and age" , well I do and a lot ! Such elitist arguments are really bad. I use Wine for backwards compatibilty to my old windows XP software as I have moved forward with everything else to Mint etc. And this is NOT a...

Re: Dell 15 ubuntu edition - inspiron 3552

Well now with Mint 18.1 IT FINALLY works for me !! I dont know if it was that I set straight UEFI boot in BIOS/UEFI with no legacy option rom, or that there is some secret sauce in 18.1, but atleast I could successfully install mint 18.1 !!

Re: Dell Inspiron 3552 hardware issue [SOLVED]

Well finally my problem seems solved too ! I Did the exact opposite ! I set legacy to straight UEFI (with no legacy boot rom I think it was) and Serena 18.1 went straight in ! Triple boot :-)
Thanks for the patience :-D
I was ready to install Win10 instead .. Maybe that threat was what did it too :-P

Re: Dell 15 ubuntu edition - inspiron 3552

Yeah Ive been banging my head against the cyberwall on this for months now .. The Intel Atom graphics or whatever seem to stop any successful boot on my laptop. I was able to install kernel 4.2 or thereabouts with the kernel directives that was on the original Ubuntu install. This on Linux Mint 17.3...

Re: Dell Inspiron 3552 hardware issue [SOLVED]

Essentially its NO acceleration, (Mint said so in a box up top right side of screen, when I installed Mint 18 (with nomodeset etc). Ive found out the same stuff happens with Mint 17.3, but with the kernel directives in Ubuntu I can run as late as 4.2.x kernel But anything later than that results in ...

Recommended kernel for Mint 17.3

I just wondered what kernel I should run on my laptop for Mint 17.3 Cinnamon.
Due to some kind of crazy Braswell incompatibility with kernels later than 4.2.x
that is the most recent I can run :-(
Dell Inspiron 3552. So is that kernel still safe ??

Greets !

Re: HDMI Out of Range on Reboot, After Install

Could it be you have some kind of "fast boot" on in the bios ? Anyway you will likely need latest Nvidia drivers for this card as its likely too young for Nouveau drivers. This probably isnt Mints fault per se, its merely the case of Linux distros usually gaining support of bleeding edge new hardwar...

Re: Kernel 4.4 Intel Graphics Problems

I have no way of getting Intel Braswell HD acceleration :-(
I wonder if its a similar problem. (Driver / X)
Works in 17.3 does not work in 18.

Looks like it works up to 4.2.x in 17.3 but not 4.4 ..
And for that I had to put in some tweaks on the kernel parameters line.

Re: Dell Inspiron 3552 hardware issue [PARTLY SOLVED]

Hello ! I have the same machine, and when installing 18.0 I get an annoying black screen on boot, both on USB and on installed system. I get past it with "nomodeset", but then I get no acceleration :-( https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=226527&p=1195216#p1195216 Thanks for the tips th...

Re: Acer with onboard videocard Intel Corporation Device 22b1

I have a DELL Inspiron Ubuntu Edition 3552 with same device and I think with Linux Mint 18 and kernel 4.4 I only get a black screen on boot,
nomodset gets me into OS but no acceleration.
