Xsane only scans partial

I am trying to scan a Costco bill roughly 2 1/2" by 10". Using Xsane previews it automatically and borders the whole bill, but when I scan the results are only the top couple of inches.

Re: Laptop keyboard stopped working

Forget it; I formatted and am reloading everything, but this time I won't rely on Timeshift. Thanks for the replies. Before formatting I tried installing 19.1 fresh and it wouldn't go past the "Where are you" map; in Windows now and will try a Mint 19.1 install later. If it still hangs I'll go back ...

Laptop keyboard stopped working

All of a sudden no keyboard on Dell Inspiron laptop. I'm on my PC now. Keyboard is fine in Windows; so it's Mint. I can't even use Timeshift as I can't type in the password. I just upped to 19.1. If there are any solutions here great; otherwise I'll either re-install or replace an old image with Acr...

Re: [SOLVED] how to troubleshoot v e r y s l o w shutdown/reboot?

It seems I have a similar problem periodically shutting down Mint. It hangs on the ming icon. Now I think it is after I have used the printer. On the shut down hang I hit the esc key and see a line denoting a problem shutting sown CUPS. Edit: Just found the following showing and error yesterday: W [...

EFI partition size.

The following is not a question and maybe I'm posting it in the wrong place. Anyways I did a lot of searching around to find a way to increase my efi partiion. Eventually I tried this and it worked. I was having problems on the previous installation; one was numerous ACHI errors on boot up, which se...

Re: StickyNotes

I like Sticky notes because it loads in former place setting on boot up, but if I change background colour from default I can't select text to copy and paste; weird. With the default white background it's fine, but if I change to say a yellow background; can no longer select text. This is on Linux M...

Try >>> Boot Mint 18 and use the USB image writer to burn the 19 ISO to a (different) USB!
I did fail to mention the Mint 19 USB wouldn't boot to my PC with UEFI either. I've tried Unebootin to make the USB. I'll give USB Image writer a try.

Can't boot to 19

I made a UEFI USB bootable using Rufus for the new Mint 19, but my Dell Inspiron 15 - 5578 won't boot to it. I can still boot to the Mint 18 USB which was created the same way using Rufus. So is there some difference with the Mint 19 booting format?

Re: Nord VPN slow in Mint

Well yes; when I was following the instructions, one instruction was to install the openvpn amd got the message that the latest was already installed. Thanks anyways. That is a huge speed drop from 160 to 12. I'll check the link you posted though.

Nord VPN slow in Mint

I just signed on with Nord VPN. I am on my PC wired network and my DL speed is 160Mbps. I followed all the instruction on installing OpenVPN and Nord. When I got it going my speed was down to 12Mbps in Mint. When I booted to Windows 10 and did the simple Nord VPN install my speed there was 111Mbps; ...

Did three reboots with the same results. Boot times

I recently took the plunge and shrunk my laptop ssd drive to accommodate Mint. Actually I am a long time Mint user, but was a bit nervous dealing with the new UEFI format. Anyways it all went well. Also my ageing PC crashed and I built a new one with a B360 HD3 MB and an i5-8400 CPU with 16GB RAM. I...

Re: cursor irregularities

I don't think I'm that bad. Just did a typing test and am 20 wpm. I just think I'm fat fingering a key and sending the cursor elsewhere. If I remember to hold my hads off the laptop frame I can avoid this.

cursor irregularities

I find the cursor takes off into a previous part of the text I am typ (just did then) ing. I know I'm fat fingered and no speed typist. I use all fingers, but not the quickest. I have the mouse touchpad disabled while typing. Twice during this message the cursor has gone to a previous part of the te...
