Re: Shutdown problems - Failed to wait for process: Protocol error
Was half expecting to see a load of me-too posts, as indeed I began. But, no, is it really only affecting us few? Or is there a broader issue that I'm missing? Anyone any thoughts? GeeGee Nope that's why I'm here trying to find an answer. I even re-installed saving my home partition and it's back t...

ignores grub and boots windows 10
I just installed W10 and Mint Tricia on a friends HP PC. I have repeatedly gone into BIOS settings and selected the Ubuntu UEFI for first boot. It will then boot to the Grub with Mint and windows as choice. But if he selects and goes into Windows and reboots the grub choice is no longer there and bo...

Re: [SOLVED] Grub Customizer
That solution you provided me with doesn;'t sound like a bad idea to be a default on the Mint install; what do you think. I would imagine a large percentage to be dual or more OS booters. The developers could even have it as an option on install. The only reason I had used Grub Customizer was for th...

Re: Grub Customizer
Edit: I've never gotten the hang of using nano so replaced with xed. If you've used sudo xed , which is harmful, I advise to make sure that the permissions in your /home are OK: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/about-root.html#ID4 (item 4) I'll work on nano and thanks again for all your ...

Re: Grub Customizer
... does anyone know of a way to safely instruct Grub2 to load the previous OS. sudo nano /etc/default/grub Add or edit these lines: GRUB_DEFAULT=saved GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true You will probably find that you'll need to edit the GRUB_DEFAULT option and add GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT . Ctrl-s to save changes, an...

[SOLVED] Grub Customizer
Advice is not to use Gtub Customizer; OK won't use it, but does anyone know of a way to safely instruct Grub2 to load the previous OS. I have a laptop with Mint and Fedora installed and it isn't much of an issue there, but my PC has Windows 10 and Mint Tricia installed. Windows being Windows and req...

Re: Boots to blank screen
Solved sort of: Long story, but fixed. I upgraded to Tricia; same problem. I Timeshifted back to December; same problem. I then did a fresh install of Tricia which asked if I just wanted to delete Tricia and re-install; I chose that method. I booted to the fresh Tricia and no blank screen. I realize...

Re: Boots to blank screen
Something else is going on with my laptop and Mint. I used Timeshift back to December 2 where I know it was working fine and I get the same black screen on boot up. I may wind up favouring Fedora for default OS.

Boots to blank screen
This just started on my Dell Inspiron 15-5578 laptop: Mint 19.1 boots to blank screen. I treat it as being in suspend, but mouse or keyboard won't bring it to life. The only thing I can do is hit the power button and that doesn't work right away; I have to hit it several times and then it comes to t...

Re: Grub Install or not ?
I don't see where that would be a problem, but I think if you install 19 over the existing LM partition it wil install its' own grub anyways. I just had an interesting experience. I have installed many Mints alongside Windows and never a problem. The latter of these have been UEFI installs. The late...

Xsane only scans partial
I am trying to scan a Costco bill roughly 2 1/2" by 10". Using Xsane previews it automatically and borders the whole bill, but when I scan the results are only the top couple of inches.

Re: Laptop keyboard stopped working
Forget it; I formatted and am reloading everything, but this time I won't rely on Timeshift. Thanks for the replies. Before formatting I tried installing 19.1 fresh and it wouldn't go past the "Where are you" map; in Windows now and will try a Mint 19.1 install later. If it still hangs I'l...

Laptop keyboard stopped working
All of a sudden no keyboard on Dell Inspiron laptop. I'm on my PC now. Keyboard is fine in Windows; so it's Mint. I can't even use Timeshift as I can't type in the password. I just upped to 19.1. If there are any solutions here great; otherwise I'll either re-install or replace an old image with Acr...

Re: [SOLVED] how to troubleshoot v e r y s l o w shutdown/reboot?
It seems I have a similar problem periodically shutting down Mint. It hangs on the ming icon. Now I think it is after I have used the printer. On the shut down hang I hit the esc key and see a line denoting a problem shutting sown CUPS. Edit: Just found the following showing and error yesterday: W [...

EFI partition size.
The following is not a question and maybe I'm posting it in the wrong place. Anyways I did a lot of searching around to find a way to increase my efi partiion. Eventually I tried this and it worked. I was having problems on the previous installation; one was numerous ACHI errors on boot up, which se...

Re: StickyNotes
I like Sticky notes because it loads in former place setting on boot up, but if I change background colour from default I can't select text to copy and paste; weird. With the default white background it's fine, but if I change to say a yellow background; can no longer select text. This is on Linux M...
