Re: Firefox will not open on Live DVD -- CLOSED--

Thank you, Karl, for the prompt response. I'm currently using Xfburn on the Asus for burning DVDs (Xfce is the desktop) and K3b on the Acer (KDE is the desktop). I will try to test the DVDs on another PC/laptop to see if the situation is the same. It may take a few days to do so, however. Brasero ha...

Re: Firefox will not open on Live DVD -CLOSED--

Karl: Thank you for your response. Actually the Ontario university has no direct contact with me as I live a four to five day drive west of the university. I only mentioned it as it is the closest download site to me. I've never even seen the campus though I grew up a couple of hours east of the uni...

Firefox will not open on Live DVD -- CLOSED--

I've tried Cinnamon, KDE and Xfce live DVDs for Mint 15 on my Acer 5250 and Asus U56E laptops. The live DVD for each Mint version loads nicely, looks good on this screen. Firefox opens the default Mint screen and does nothing else. If I click on the Mint Forum button, any other Mint choice or choose...

Wireless Modem Setup/Installation

Now having two laptops in my home, I felt it's time to update from my old hardwired modem to wireless. I have a "ZyXEL Communications Corporation" wireless unit supplied by Telus (a Canadian telephone company) currently connected by a cable to this laptop. Telus and their staff assist thei...

Re: Move existing Linux Mint 13 install to another computer

Thanks for your reply, Redondo. It actually makes since as the "new" laptop is more modern than the one it's replacing. However, the "new" is actually two years old and refurbished. I purchased it because I didn't want to fiddle around with the Windows 8 imposed restrictions incl...

Move existing Linux Mint 13 install to another computer

I have just purchased a newer laptop and want to move my existing Linux Mint 13 install from the "old" laptop onto the new one. Is there a way to do this? Can I make up a LiveDVD duplicating exactly what I have on my old system and install it on the new one? I would think that I'd need to ...

Transfer Mint 14 DVD to a USB

This has me stymied! I have been trying to transfer the Mint 14 Cinnamon files from the DVD files in my Home folder -"Download"-- onto a USB. I can't do it as I need to be "Root" to do so. That's understandable but how do I get to become root? I'm sure it's something very easy bu...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

If that should occur, I would venture over to SolusOS. I've been "playing" with the Live DVDs of Eveline and 2 A5 and am quite impressed. Both of them run very well on my main notebook and appear to be nicely setup with all the programmes that I regularly use. Ikey and his team have a big ...

Re: Mint 13 xfce as Live USB (SOLVED)

to make live usb from iso file Code: Select all sudo dd if=linuxmint.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M of course, change "linuxmint" to the actual name of your iso file [/i] Thanks caribriz. I was wondering about the number "1048576" not being changed for each version of Mint. I had the fee...

Re: Mint 13 xfce as Live USB (SOLVED)

Either xfce 13 RC is not a "hybrid" or there is a situation with my download. The check sum matches but writing it to an USB is not working, even with the corrected verbiage to have it do so. I will not bother at this time but will try again when the non-RC version is available. The Live D...

Mint 13 xfce as Live USB (SOLVED)

I have Mint xfce 13 RC on a Live DVD but need to transfer it to a USB to install it on another computer that has an inoperable DVD drive. The only information for transferring the .iso files to a USB that I've found were from Clem for Mint 12 KDE RC. The "how-to" instructions are available...

Changing MATE desktop background

It was always simple in the past. Find a background (from a "wallpaper" site, for example), right click, choose "Set as Desktop Background" and the photo would appear and stay. MATE Mint 13 doesn't respond. I right click the photo, make my choice to set it as background and nothi...

Re: LMDE and Mint 12 Gnome dual install

Thank you for your prompt reply, neonoverload. You've verified what I sort of felt. However, in the time between posting my message and now, I found I could install Cinnamon 1.4 to Lisa (Gnome) and have done so. It is working very nicely so I'll hang around with Lisa until LMDE is no longer an "...

LMDE and Mint 12 Gnome dual install (SOLVED, for now...)

I have been reviewing LMDE RC and finding it quite pleasant. I like Cinnamon (now that I've been able to get it to run -- had to ask how to do it from the LiveDVD). I think that I will install LMDE onto my computer but first need to ask... I am running Mint 12 Gnome and KDE as dual boot. KDE is OK b...

Re: Change Mate to Cinnamon on LMDE (SOLVED)

Thank you cxexa, your suggestion worked wonderfully. Now I'm working with Cinnamon on the LiveDVD with ease and it's looking good. I'm not sure if I will install the "RC" version or just wait until the final version is released. Time to flip a coin...

Re: Change Mate to Cinnamon on LMDE

Thank you, Squeezy. Obviously, I must install LMDE to enjoy/experience Cinnamon. I still have the LiveDVD running. If I was asked to sign in when I first booted the LiveDVD about 12 hours ago, I don't recall. Memory cells have a tendency to let things fade as one ages, eh... :( I'll start the LiveDV...

Change Mate to Cinnamon on LMDE (SOLVED)

I have just downloaded the RC candidate for LMDE Mate/Cinnamon. The LiveDVD runs fine with Mate. How do I find the Cinnamon version so I can see it and how it works? I've tried the upper left corner of my screen, the upper right and both lower corners but get nothing. I've right-clicked the desktop ...
