Re: Returning to Mint for school and MS word questions

*gives up* I tried the install again, and the installer is still crashing in *exactly* the same spot as it was on my Arch install. Crap... The good news is libre office is a *LOT* better since I've lasted tried it! I was blown away! That, coupled with my teacher saying that google docs could be a re...

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

I would like to point out that, as with everything linux based, no one is forcing anyone to use software that you don't want to. Use what works and leave it at that. In the interest of free software, I would advise reporting bugs upstream or to the project's maintainers. Whining about it won't help....

Re: Finally hit road block scraptop...

"scraptop" haha.... nice. Could you use an external HDD/SSD exclusively then if you're sure the internal jacks are incorrect/busted? Might be slow, unless its USB 3.0, or quite possibly even FireWire, but I doubt the possibilities of both existing on your scraptop.* Otherwise saving these sorts of t...

Re: Returning to Mint for school and MS word questions

*faceplants* Through faults that are only my own, I didn't check that the ISO was actually downloaded successfully. Wasted at least 1 hour until I realized my ISO was only 250MB! So now I need to re-download, possibly babysit the process, and try again in the near future. I really want to give Mint ...

Re: Returning to Mint for school and MS word questions

@Habitual In the past, I have tried using libre office and using LO/OO documents. Opening them using my schools copy of MS word always had page spacing and paragraph indentation issues, among other things. So then I would have to "repair" the document by using the schools copy of MS word to manually...

[SOLVED]Returning to Mint for school and MS word questions

Hello everyone, I'm having tremendous difficulty setting up Arch Linux for school. I just, can't see my baby, my super-duper minimal and gamer-oriented Arch install, ever functioning for this purpose (school). This is on top of MS word refusing to install... Therefore, I'm going to dive back into Mi...

Then I'm pretty sure messing with the router, very carefully, is the best/only option. Good luck!

Re: Block New Gtlds in all Browsers on Linux Mint?

No, I'm saying that you should. Unless adblock+ works for you, in which case messing with the router would just be redundant.

Re: Software that you would like to have for Linux

Gaming software, and a lot more of it. Frostbite Engine 4 and Battlefield 1 anyone? Or maybe some more racing games? Perhaps porting newer Call of Duty's over. They're not all bad, :P. I've always liked shooters, so rainbow six siege would possibly be a fun one. Really anything with a great deal of ...

Re: Block New Gtlds in all Browsers on Linux Mint?

I would say that using your router is the easiest way to catch all traffic. Which make, model, and firmware are you using on your router? You can find this out by connecting to 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.1 in any web browser. You may need a username/password, though that's for you to figure out. Once ...

Re: Real root account.

Flemur, that is correct. I can log in without a hitch as real root when using Arch Linux. Although logging in as a real root user, for any length of time, is stupid. Polluting /root with random files *will* break something. Running xorg (graphical environment) as root is a massive security hole, and...

Re: Wish list for Hardware compatibility database for Linux required

I would like to add the following link: http://www.linux-drivers.org/ which then itself links to many such databases. :) Pjotr, in my experience with wifi cards, Ralink chips are (or maybe they're not anymore?) huge offenders at lacking linux support. This is assuming there aren't very many driver d...

Fred, that is something I had not thought of. People using both Mint/Arch together in some way. Pierre, I might have to drop by more often. :).

I'm going to browse around the forums and see what there is to see. :D

Greetings from an older-ish user.

Hello everyone. It has been a very, very long time since I posted anything here I just wanted to say hi. :) I'm currently using Arch Linux exclusively, have been for a while now... But I wanted to stop by here and visit the boards of my very first distro, Linux Mint. When I first joined I was using ...

My dad just recently upgrade to Windows 10.

At least now I can find the button to turn that bandwidth hog off when not in use. And it doesn't take years to turn off, surprisingly.

Re: Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework.

Many thanks Ranthe! What had stumped me for a few days took just a few minutes to setup correctly. I'm very happy about that! :D The test page worked, and so long as my homework prints and everything survives reboot, I'm now ready to start pumping out some science labs and essays. As an overview of ...

Re: Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework.

@kevinthefixer I think you may have misunderstood me. The root password doesnt let me log into the printer, which is what it looks like it is trying to do. Its like the printer itself has its own password on it, and I have no idea what it is. Running the printer config utility in different ways yiel...

Re: Setting up LMDE 2 for school/homework.

I'll see if there is even anything worth looking at on the website. When I tried to, I didn't get very far. I suppose I will unleash google-fu on it and see if I can find anything. When I clicked add, I get asked for a password. Root user/password doesnt work, varying combinations of "default" passw...
