Re: unmount, and remount or mount again

Mounting a partition isn't a one-time occurrence. You can unmount and mount until the cows come home. OK. :) And what about if I unmount a drive and then turn off the computer... will that drive automatically mount again on reboot? "That would require an entry in the file /etc/fstab. Otherwise...

Re: unmount, and remount or mount again

A lot of things may auto-mount for you such as Flash drives or even external USB hard disks. It depends on your system settings and the filesystem the drive you're talking about was formatted for too. I can routinely "mount" a FAT32 formatted Flash drive just by inserting it into a USB po...

Re: Firefox keeps crashing on live Linux

Hi gtsfer, First, thank you. Using your instructions I was able to locate the Firefox profile and copy the contents into a text file, which I saved to my external hard drive. You aren't kidding; it's hard to read. But it's a lot better than nothing! I'm so grateful both for your instructions and for...

Firefox keeps crashing on live Linux

I've been using Linux Mint live, and have encountered a number of Firefox crashes and/or shutdowns. At least once I was able to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and when Firefox was relaunched all my tabs were still there. Another time Firefox refused to launch at all, but eventually did tell me I had the option ...

Re: Where can I submit documentation corrections?

Hi PT. :) Well, yes, I can do that, but I'd still like to know the answer in general, since this may come up again. Or do I just have to go through someone else? Or, let's see, how to ask this without it being taken wrong... do you have some special connection to the project? (It sounded better than...

Re: unmount, and remount or mount again

Thanks for your reply, EmpireITtech. While I don't necessarily doubt that my answer is somewhere in that page, I don't have the time or frankly the motivation to read it all -- it's huge! I also need to put out a reminder that I'm still pretty new to Mint and Linux in general -- this is the Newbie f...

Re: Suggestions from a Windows User

Hello everyone. I'm a Windows user, which has long loved the concept of Linux, yet hasn't had enough time in my life to "learn" how to use it... 1. Installing was WAY easier then I expected. Only issue: not enough details on the partition screen. Windows users DO NOT want to lose anything...

Re: default partitioning scheme

I'm still pretty new to Mint -- been using it "live" from a flash drive for only months -- and cannot say with authority whether SiKing's idea is good or not. But it seems like a good idea, and I think something should be done with the installer in terms of partitions. The main reason, in ...

Re: the "5-minute Essential Shell Tutorial"

It's just a title to say it's a short introduction and that you will not know everything after reading it... There is often a second meaning to title  Yeah, obviously a second meaning in this case. Just like the word "literally" has come to mean anything you want it to. :x (Drifting ...

Re: the "5-minute Essential Shell Tutorial"

I'd have preferred to comment about this on the same page as the tutorial but couldn't, for the life of me, find a way to comment. Can anyone tell me? Someone's comment is marked as having been from six days ago, but I don't see how. You need to register at community.linuxmint.com and log in. I hav...

the "5-minute Essential Shell Tutorial"

I've just come from viewing the tutorial named above, located at http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/100, and just had to make one comment: Five -minute? :!: Sheesh, I don't think so; I spent something closer to half an hour there. I might have been able to read it all in five minutes (even...

unmount, and remount or mount again

OK, time for another "silly newbie" question. If I unmount a drive, what does it take to mount that drive again? Is it as simple as right-clicking on the drive's icon and/or typing a command in the terminal? I'm kind of afraid to try an unmount without knowing I can get access to the drive...

Re: How organized are the installed files?

austin.texas wrote: You then want your personal files on a partition that is accessible from Windows or Mint. That is easy for Mint - you will just add bookmarks or links to those folders, and you can edit fstab so that your data partition mounts at boot. Easy for Mint maybe, but what about for the...

Re: personal message stuck in outbox?

That seems like dumb programming... Actually, it's not dumb. It has a purpose (as it was described above you) and it works as intended. Yeah, I get the purpose -- and the intention. I also know it works! But none of that necessarily means it's smart or intuitive. I think it's a nice, desirable feat...

Where can I submit documentation corrections?

I've noticed at least one problem with the official Linux Mint 15 documentation. It's not a technical, but a grammar issue that would make it more readable and helpful.

Where could I submit this correction?

Thanks

Re: suggestion: a forum dedicated to live Mint setups

What topics specifically would find a home there, and not in one of the existing forums? There really isn't that much of a difference aside from it being slower and perhaps less convenient? Well, I guess I don't know, and maybe there wouldn't be many. As I said, I'm just planting a seed and I'm ope...

Re: Why do segments of my sentences go bold for a moment?

Yes, as far as I've noticed, this happens only on this website, and only with my web browser. I'm using Firefox, and do not have another browser installed. I'm using a live USB flash drive, so (evidently) can't install another browser to try. It's not that big of a deal, anyway, I was just curious. ...
