seemingly serious Warpinator issue
Hi all, A few weeks ago I was copying files (photos) from my smartphone to my desktop computer with Warpinator. I copied one set and then started another, but was shocked to see that the first set had vanished from the Warpinator folder. :o After scratching my head, pondering for a good ten minutes ...

Re: Cinnamon screen recorder mystery
Correct. Cinnamon's built-in recorder does not record sound. Interestingly, within that 34 hour recording, I just discovered a much shorter part which I had intentionally recorded. In other words, I somehow had two instances of Cinnamon's screen recorder running simultaneously and never realized it....

Re: Cinnamon screen recorder mystery
No, they're two separate programs. I actually have both -- just installed Simple Screen Recorder five or six days ago. To describe to you what would happen, I launched it just now and then also started Cinnamon's recorder. (You can do it, yourself if you use Cinnamon; it's built-in. I provided the k...

Cinnamon screen recorder mystery
Hi Today I happened to glance at my System Tray and saw the "recording" icon that indicates I had activated the screen recorder. Quite a surprise since it was my first computer access of the day, so it would have been recording all night. But when I used the key combination that toggles it...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
Jo-con-Ël, thank you for the comment, which I'm just now seeing three days later. I'm sorry for the delayed response. On top of other issues, I've had a plumbing emergency that surfaced four days ago and took priority over everything else. (The plumber just left minutes ago, and it's not yet solved,...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
... OK, thanks for the feedback. Do you know whether I can use that command on an existing RAID array filled with data? If I have to start from scratch I'd rather revert to Linux Mint 20.3 . Sorry for the delay, I have been observing the Sabath. You have a good question. The kpartx utility will rea...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
So, you bought a drive you don't trust and, rather than return it and/or buy another, you continue to go without backups. Suit yourself. Good luck. Are you here to help or just to criticize? :? You seem to want to talk about that topic, so I politely invited you to look at my relevant post, but you...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
... this is accessing my data!! :x As an aside, one of the things you should do as soon as possible - preferably yesterday - is get a 2 TB USB hard drive and duplicate your data to it using one of live versions mentioned above able to read the RAID array. Frankly, you should have been doing somethi...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
... ...It does seem promising. I'll wait to see what deck_luck says, since he/she has been with me from the start. However, I am concerned about whether kpartx could be used for an existing RAID array that already contains a lot of data. Please proceed with the kpartx instructions. It looks promisi...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
It looks like there are problems with fake/hardware RAID on new Mint edition/kernel. I have tried lot of things but the only way to access RAID sub-volumes/partitions was this workaround . If doing as deck_luck proposed on last post fails, you can try running sudo kpartx -a /dev/mapper/isw_ccejcdcb...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
I just noticed that you (evidently) use Linux Mint 19 XFCE. Is that intentional, or is an upgrade impossible on your hardware? It seems like your computer might be even older than mine (customized and purchased circa 2010, fully loaded for its day).

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
... The ability to read a RAID drive must surely exist in this version of Linux Mint and Ubuntu or I would certainly think it would have been a "known issue." :x ... I really appreciate your time, but it's upsetting that I'm not seeing more discussion of this critically important problem....

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
Let us attempt to manually mount the raid set. Please post the output from the following commands: sudo df -Thxtmpfs sudo mkdir /mnt/raid_set sudo chmod 755 /mnt/raid_set sudo mount /dev/dm-0 /mnt/raid_set sudo df -Thxtmpfs OK. Here they are: mintstant@mintstant-MS-7522:~$ sudo df -Thxtmpfs [sudo] ...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
If you want me to help please stay focused on my replies instead of wondering off course with other forum member's replies. You seem to be suggesting that I did wander off-course. I'll try not to take offense at that implication since I'm not sure, but for the record I've been highly focused on you...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
The dmraid -s -s command proves LM21 is using dmraid . We can try to manually mount the device as a test. From the Linux Mint Menu search for Disks click the Disks utility. Find the isw_ccejcdcbfb_Volume0 device in the left Devices column and click it. The right side will populate with the isw_ccej...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
I use MDADM software raid type 1. You can see the two drives sdb and sdc that make up md0 raid. Then if I type in a terminal sudo blkid, and type my password. I get > /dev/md0: UUID="02dfd47a-a3d8-40de-8f63-cbeebcedb653" BLOCK_SIZE="4096" TYPE="ext4" and finally I add ...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
Thank you for sticking with me. Ah, interesting about Windows and dmraid. That makes sense. I can't comment on "it looks like the ISW RAID set is active", though it's encouraging, because I'm not sure what that means or how you determined it. (I gather from a quick search that the 'I' is f...

Re: cannot mount RAID drive(s) after Linux Mint 21 upgrade
Sorry for the delay. I tried to post a reply several days ago and I'll spare you the details of why I couldn't, but they included a computer crash that wiped out the post before it was finished, a COVID booster, and other stuff I had to do. In answer to your question about how I originally set up RA...

Re: Deepin Screen recorder not working in Mint 21 Cinnamon
I might be having the same problem. Until I "upgraded" from Linux Mint 20.3 to 21 I could start a screen recorder with Ctrl-Alt-Shift-R and end it with the same combination. But now I see no indication that it's working. I don't know if we're referring to the same software, though. I never...
