Re: Laptop fan always runs at same speed, or it doesn't at a

I missed that I need the linux-image-extra package for the modules... *doh* Now with 3.13.0-34 kernel + modules everything seems to work fine and I set this to solved. Just a last question. Does updating with the GUI or manually with apt-get update && apt-get upgrade keep old kernels as well as with...

Re: Laptop fan always runs at same speed, or it doesn't at a

also debian and Ubuntu/mint don't use the same version of kernel. a lot of things have changed in kernel 3.13 onward probably also some calls to acpi tables (my fans and brightness worked really correctly after kernel 3.14.6) Check if your bios is up to date and try another kernel. And check the ke...

Kernel is 3.13.0-24-generic and BIOS is latest but it's a 2004 Laptop... That BIOS has absolutely zero settings which have to do with that.

This may/may not be interesting info for you: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/06/linux-kernel-power-issue-fix.html This link was is from a post where the issue was fthe fan was running too fast all the time. Re: Laptop fan always runs at same speed, or it doesn't at a

there has to be physical sensors (embedded or not) ACPI is one way to address them. http://www.acpi.info/ lm-sensors is just a tool to check them,it will use acpi calls to identify them. Try it and see if additional sensors are added. Like I said, I tried with debian already but because I don't rem...

try this

sudo apt-get install lm-sensors

Code: Select all

sudo sensors-detect
this will try to detect the correct sensors and enable them.
Thanks for the reply, but there are no sensor devices, I already tried that with Debian to read the temperatures. I had to read them with acpi instead...

[SOLVED] Laptop fan always runs at same speed, or doesn't

Hi, I have a HP Compaq nx6110 and recently switched from Debian to Mint 17. The only thing not working (so far) is ACPI (I guess) not controling the fan. The fan always runs at same speed, no matter how hot the CPU is. The fan speed stays at what it is at boot (~half of the boot process). So if the ...

Re: Firefox 27.0 crashes on .pdf and some websites

Forgot to say that the crashes also occurred with Firefox 28 before using the newer Nvidia drivers from their website.
No further problems so far so I set topic to solved.

Re: Firefox 27.0 crashes on .pdf and some websites

Hi, wasn't here some time. Used Chromium the last weeks because I couldn't live with these crashes. But Chromium annoyed me as well. So I started a new search some days ago and found this arch thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=174277 The outcome there was that it is a Nvidia bug wit...

Re: Trouble booting Mint Debian!!!!

I have the same issue with LMDE DVDs on my system. For me adding nomodeset and xforcevesa to kernel parameters does it. Seems to have to do something with my Nvidia card. After installing LMDE and Nvidia binary driver it works without that parameters.

Re: Issues with java/javascript

Hi, tried that and got the same result, so I started chromium from console (that's always a good first thing to do if something goes wrong because it mostly gives you helpful output) which gave me that: java version "1.6.0_27" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.7) (6b27-1.12.7-2) OpenJDK 64-...

[SOLVED] Firefox 27.0 crashes on .pdf and some websites

Hi, I'm using LMDE Mate 64 bit. Recently there was update mintupdate-debian and then a big update (~200 packages for me), not sure if these two were related. Yesterday I did the firefox update to 27.0. So everything is up to date now. Now my Firefox crashes randomly on some websites and reproduceabl...
