Re: Query about 'Do Not Translate' terms

@Pjotr, thank you very much. Agree with you. So, unless somebody would say otherwise explaining why these words have to be kept in English letters, I will continue to use my language's font to write such strings (they sound same, so users immediately identify) for my translations. This of course doe...

Query about 'Do Not Translate' terms

Hi, I'm trying to translate LM projects to Kannada language. I have a query regarding strings that are asked not to be translated. Translating content which shouldn’t be translated If something is in English on the screen, refer to it in English as well. For instance, the boot menu for Linux Mint sa...

Re: FreeBSD Linux Mint Dual Boot?

I had installed Debian and FreeBSD along with macOS on MacbookAir. So, it is possible. As the linked article says just leave one partition unformatted for FreeBSD. During install, at partition stage select auto-UFS but choose 'partition' NOT 'entire disk'. If I remember correctly, ZFS wants whole dr...

Re: Software Manager does not give option for sudo/root pass

I (we) have a regular (non-sudo) account and would like to work with it full time. I don't want to switch to my sudo account just for installing software or making other changes that require sudo privileges. I think you are overcomplicating things here. That's really what sudo is for, so you can li...

Re: User switching not working. GDBus error

I hope you're not still using Mint 16, since it has been unsupported (receiving NO updates, even security-related ones) for over a year. Regards, MDM Hi, I'm running Rafaela. I saw bug report for 14.04 Trusty, so just posted the link without thinking much. What you implied is correct; the issue has...

Re: User switching not working. GDBus error

Reviving an old post. The problem apparently was with gdmflexiserver being hardcoded to 'actions' which is not available in latest version of Ubuntu (Linux Mint). 1. Refer http://askubuntu.com/questions/517337/switch-user-not-working-in-xubuntu-14-04 for solution. 2. Refer https://bugs.launchpad.net...

Re: Software Manager does not give option for sudo/root pass

Hi all, I'm reviving an old post of mine. I managed a hack (albeit ugly and may even be bad from security point of view). Software manager (even cinnamon-settings-users), now works as I want. <rant> Basically, what I wanted was a "Run As..." feature in software manager (and any program that needs ad...

Re: Update Manager lists users only from 'sudo' group

Hi, The problem is fixed. I was poking around polkit directories and found /etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/51-ubuntu-admin.conf. All I had to do was to add my test group at the end as, [Configuration] AdminIdentities=unix-group:sudo;unix-group:admin;unix-group:_ladmin Now, it shows members of _l...

[SOLVED] Update Manager lists users only from 'sudo' group

Hi, I'm experimenting with sudo and have created a group '_ladmin'. For the time being the group has all the privileges that 'sudo' group has. The following is my sudoers file. # # This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root. # # Please consider adding local content in /etc/sudoers.d/...

[SOLVED]polkit rules to override network settings policy not

Hi, because IMO it should be a pkla file located under /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d, probably containing something like this [Network Manager] Identity=unix-group:users Action=org.freedesktop.consolekit.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system ResultAny=yes ResultInactive=no ResultActive=ye...

polkit rules to override network settings policy not working

Hi, If we click on network connections and try to edit any entry, we get message 'system policy prevents modification of network settings for all users' and asks for sudo password. The related policy action item is "org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system". This is a family PC and I wa...

Re: Signon password doesnot workto authenticate software man

I looked at changing the password in system: no good. I also looked at the hardware keyboard layout: its labelled English (US). The UK board is not an option. I tried pressing to default, no change as it already is in default. Did you try clicking on plus (+) button and adding UK keyboard layout? O...

Re: Signon password doesnot workto authenticate software man

You mean when you login, your keyboard layout is UK and after you logged in it changes to US? That's weird. Btw, for changing password as suggested, have you tried first changing/adding keyboard layout in "System Settings->Keyboard->Keyboard layouts" and then changing password?

Re: Software Manager does not give option for sudo/root pass

eanfrid, I don't think you understood my request correctly. You answered as if the default behaviour is correct and it cannot be(/should not be) changed. Is that right? I agree that unauthorised user should not be able to run admin commands. What I expect is, there should be prompt to enter sudo/roo...

Software Manager does not give option for sudo/root password

Hi, When I'm logged in as a non-default user i.e., other than the one created during install, I'm not able to run Software Manager (mintinstall?). It asks for password but does not accept root password, or sudo password of default account. It says invalid password...try again. If I give password of ...

User switching not working. GDBus error

Hi, I'm on Linux Mint 16 XFCE. I'm not able to switch to other user from either 'Actions Button' or 'User Switcher'. I get the following error [b]Unable to start new display:[/b] GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service...
