Re: Slow Firefox Web Page Resolution

Did you happen to maybe install Firefox for the first time in the last week or so? Turn off their DOH crap. It may be that your ISP's DNS is resolving faster that crapfares that is setup by defauilt in Firefox. I also had an issue with Firefox being slow on Linux Mint 20, nothing wrong with my inte...

Re: [SOLVED] ACPI errors and graphics card drivers issues

If I do that, my system doesn't boot at all anymore. It shows a black screen with a cursor just after the Mint logo appears. I had to re-enable "Secure Boot" (which I disabled to get the NVIDIA driver to work) to get my system to boot, remove the "xorg.conf" file and disable Secure Boot again.

Re: ACPI BIOS Error during boot

What other options are available for that 'Advanced Graphics - DVMT Pre-Allocated' setting? A 64M allocation usually corresponds to a 'hybrid' arrangement in which both onboard and separate GPU are involved, but I have to admit that I'm very uncertain about this Asus setup. The only other option av...

Re: ACPI BIOS Error during boot

In the BIOS 2 graphics cards are listed: https://ibb.co/c2pPQzG But I can't find an option to change the default or something.. That's because your system's UEFI ("Asus BIOS Utility") configuration is set to "EZ Mode". You need to set it to "Advanced Mode" in order to make all of its options availa...

Just letting you know your images are not showing for me. I've not yet posted images on this forum, so I can't offer advice on why they might not be showing.
I used the "rimg" tag, the image doesn't show inline but if I click on the "Image" link it does show for me.

But I can't find an option to change the default or something..

There is clearly something wrong with the NVIDIA card/drivers. This is what the "Nvidia Settings" window under System Settings looks like:

ACPI BIOS Error during boot

I just installed Linux Mint on my new laptop, ASUS VivoBook X571GD-BQ326T (specs: https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-Laptop-X571GD/specifications/ ). The system boots fine, but errors are visible during boot and these are visible in dmesg after booting: [ 0.236003] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure crea...

Re: Occasional crashes after 18.1 upgrade.

I just had a different problem.. I clicked Yes but nothing happened, so I rebooted. The output of the journalctl commands a...

Re: Occasional crashes after 18.1 upgrade.

/var/log/ being in tmps was indeed the problem for the journalctl commands. I commented out these lines in my fstab, created /var/log/journal directory accessible to systemd-journal group, rebooted twice and now these commands return logs. Whenever it happens again I'll post the output, thanks for y...

Occasional crashes after 18.1 upgrade.

Hi there, I've been a happy Mint user for years now. I've been running 18.0 for about a year now, and never experienced any issues. Recently, I upgraded to 18.1 using the update manager, and I also installed some kernel updates. Since then, the system freezes completely at seemingly random moments a...

Re: Window focus mode

Do you have any program open which is set to be in the foreground? This can confuse Cinnamon. If so, close this application or remove the foreground-setting and check. No, but you gave me an idea. I disabled all my startup applications, rebooted, and the problem was solved! Then I started enabling ...
