Thanks, unfortunately none of it made any difference. I've got no 'Network Manager' showing up in the menu just 'Network' or 'Network Connections', neither seem to laid out like your description, is this something which is installed by default in Mint or do I have to add it? I cant see it under Software Manager either...

How do I edit the DNS servers?

How do I edit the DNS name servers? I've just run Namebench to find the quickest and I'm trying to find how to edit the new ones in to the resolv.conf file where I think they go? but not having much luck.

How do I edit the hosts file?

In Windows I used a program called HostsXpert to manage the hosts file, with it you could download updated hosts files with all the ad servers and doggy sites blocked and add any you wish to block, is there something similar for Linux or if not how do I manually edit the Hosts file?

Problem installing Wine from Software Manager etc

When I try to instal Wine from the Software Manager is just goes grey and the timmer spins and nothing ever happens, I've left it for upto an hour but it doesn't change, what am I doing wrong?

The drive is a Seagate Barracuda, I didn't knowingly use any encryption on it.
