Re: IceWM and Mint-How to Guide

Just having question: what is lighter : fluxbox or icewm? If I have downloaded fluxboxed Mint 9, can I get rid of fluxbox and install icewm, so fluxbox will be out of PC/distro? ^_^ I'd need a lighter distro, just for a specific purposes so I've uninstalled a lot of stuff from that fluxboxed Mint, ...

Re: Logging in with OpenBox gives black screen

Arent there GUI tools like: obconf <--? Just one example, Mint comes with GNOME by default and has quite a few nicely setup Community Editions (LXDE; Fluxbox, KDE) and if you arent willing to learn howto setup OpenBox dont use it. BTW our fellow dev and IRC operator ikey once wrote a nice howto for ...

Re: You Tube video downloading software

Where's the problem with using "youtube-dl" from the repos? It is easy to use, even though it is a command line app, really shouldnt be a problem using it:
youtube-dl -o Name\ of\ Video.flv <url>.

Re: Audacity Reinstall

What Mint do you use? In Mint 8 these packages dont exist, your package list looks kinda obsolete to me since in Mint 8 you have: libflac++-dev libflac++6 libflac-dev libflac-doc libflac8 And Libwxgtk 2.6 and 2.8 not 2.4. Please tell me which Mint version you have and if its Mint 8 where you got Aud...

HowTo make OpenOffice apply the Gtk theme

Well, I noticed if I use OpenOffice with lets say IceWM on the Main edition it doesnt apply the Gtk theme in IceWM (only in GNOME). Instead it looked very ugly and a lot like in Win 95 times, nobody wants this, at least not if you are used to the nice Gtk theme. So now after a bit of googling I foun...

Re: Why don't other distros make their installation simple?

Well until now I havent seen a hard-to-install Linux distro. Even Debian or Slackware are more like hitting enter 10 times and you have an installed system. The stuff I always fail at is configuring it after installing, making everything work espacily network setup isnt that easy. But ok thats just ...

Re: Which Desktop Version Do You Prefer? Vote Here

I prefer using my very own Desktop with IceWM and ROX, it just suites better to my needs.
I somehow cant live with the stuff that comes as default, Mint looks to perfect with the default desktop that I could never enjoy changing something on the default look of GNOME LOL.

Re: How do you promote Mint?

Personally I try to show how cool and awersome Mint is and how cool IceWM can be without eating up much recourses *g*. I also sometimes give away Linux Mint LiveCD to interested fellow students for free (if I can, otherwise I just ask them for a raw CD and take away the pain to burn it from them lol...

Espacily since PC BSD is one awesome BSD Desktop distro. Its cool that Mint gets mentioned as one of the most user friendly OS's next to Mandriva :D

If you prefer a gnome-style menu then check this little python script out http://box-look.org/content/show.php/icemenuyap2.py+?content=108208 Also, it is fairly easy to edit/customize. john Looks cool, in Debian based distributions I think there was also a way to add a GNOME application menu and up...

Thanks! I removed Midori and installed Epiphany. It appears to be faster on this older Dell P-3 laptop. I'm used to using Firefox 2 and it was fine on this computer even running KDE. I also considered Swiftfox but wasn't in synaptic and the install process looked challenging? Another way would be t...

What do you think of this? http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/arrrggg-open-source-users-are-pirates.html US lobby group is trying to get the US government to consider open source as the equivalent to piracy i.e. if you use open source software you are a pirate and that makes you an enemy of the state. IceWM and Mint-How to Guide

In this little howto I want to show how to install and set up IceWM on Linux Mint. What is IceWM? IceWm is a rather lightweight, easy to use Window Manager for the X Window System, the developers say its "fast, lightweight and wont get in your way!". Well thats exactly what IceWM is, its a good Wind...
