Re: wait for 21.3 Edge or not?

I'll rephrase my question, should have been more specific. My Mint Cinnamon is installed from ISO: linuxmint-21.2-cinnamon-64bit-edge.iso So it is not a different version, just a different installation media with a different kernel and linux-firmware than the non-edge ISO would have. Yes, according ...

wait for 21.3 Edge or not?

I have 21.2 Edge installed on a AMD processor/GPU machine, kernel 6.5.0-14, everything works. The Update manager already suggest to upgrade to 21.3. Should I wait for the 21.3 Edge, or does it matter, doesn't the upgrade installation automatically keep the higher 6.5 kernel rather than try to instal...

Is Mate still in the Mint future plans?

Hello! I am a long time user of Linux Mint, Mate version, have also used Debian, Fedora and other distros over the years. Very familiar with KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, Xfce. I am just curious to find out about the future plans of Mint's Mate Desktop. The Mate 1.26 version has been around a very long time...

Purpose of LMDE's Debian Stable base?

Sorry if this has been explained before, but after all these years on LInux and Mint, I fail to understand the purpose of having MInt LMDE based on Debian Stable. At this time, when there are changes in the Linux world, new generation of AMD cpus, wayland, nouveau, new multimedia codec etc., it woul...

Re: How scaling work

I would like to buy this monitor from Dell (UltraSharp 25 U2518D). But i am not sure if it's a good idea. The screen size is 25 inches and the resolution is 2560 x 1440. I really don't know how the scaling will work whit this size and this resolution. Now i have one 24 inches at 1920 X 1200 and i f...

Please recommend scanner

Hello, I need a couple of old photo albums scanned, and need to buy a basic USB scanner to do that. I have used scanners before, but not with Linux. My distro is MInt 16 KDE (Xsane is installed). Can you recommend a basic USB scanner that will be suitable for low/medium quality photograph scanning a...

Re: Mint 15 - what changed? cannot boot after installation .

[quote="administrollaattori" It seems that there is a bug into Mint 15 DVD ..[/quote] Yes, and also with the whole Ubuntu family DVD's. I finally got the Lenovo ThinkStation E30 going, but only by randomly trying different methods installing with different distros and Windows. Windo...

Re: Mint 15 - what changed? cannot boot after installation .

How big is the root partition / ? The root partition is 498 gigs. There is a 1024 mb swap. No other partitions. I tried another way, enabled "UEFI only" in BIOS, then created /boot/efi partition of 100 mb manually in the installation. Same thing. I then tried different things with boo-rep...

Mint 15 - what changed? cannot boot after installation ...

This Lenovo E30 workstation has been running previous Mints a long time, Mint 13 installed just fine. I started a fresh install with Mint 15 (Cinnamon, 64-bit) and the installation ran normally until the few seconds where things didn't look right. After the "restart" prompt at the end, it ...

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

It sounds more like you want Ubuntu Server stripped of everything with selective packages on installation. Yes, that's about it. While there is not much requirement for the functionality of the GUI, there is a critical requirement for the efficiency, reliability and update function of the GUI. It c...

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

The SuSe installer advanced option is the closest thing that I am trying to describe. You go through long lists of packages and install what you want. For a server, you leave out most client programs, browsers, offices, graphics, multimedia codec, and pick the server options that you need. However, ...

Re: How about a Linux Mint server edition?

Yes, the Ubuntu Server edition is quite useful, we have it in some of our file servers. However, much like Debian, its installation is not very consistent, you have to either install too much or too little, then backtrack by uninstalling and adding afterwards. Any stripped down to plain command line...

How about a Linux Mint server edition?

I wonder if there have been any plans to come up with a server edition of Linux Mint. Something like this: - an installation that by default only installs the basic Linux with a light weight X desktop - offering options to install sendmail, apache2, mysql, sshd server, dovecot POP/IMAP, BIND, Shorew...

Re: Is there a way to make SSHFS more mainstream?

2 problems, "users" and "GUI". I construct private Cloud Storage using various methods of mounting remote filesystems. FUSE rocks! I will admit I have extra work to do before I hand out a solution, usually I have to "dumb it down" quite a bit when I explain how it work...

Is there a way to make SSHFS more mainstream?

Maybe it would be good idea for Linux users in general to know more about the possibilities of SSH, SFTP and SSHFS. You can have much better, your own "cloud" or VPN style networking than Windows users can even dream about with two Linux boxes: - the client computer can access your fileser...

Nvidia Quadro 200 - Mint installation won't run

Just before trying out Mint 13 Maya I change my video card to: PNY VCQ2000-PB Nvidia Quadro 2000 Workstation Graphics Card - 1024MB GDDR5, PCI Express 2.0 x16, Dual Display Port, DVI Model#: VCQ2000-PB and to my surprise, even the installation didn't run. The first screen came up, in wrong size, the...

Re: An OS for the rest of us?

I would go with a dual boot, Windows and Linux Mint 8. I use Mint for everything except for video editing which I do with Windows Movie Maker. And no I would not recommend Linux to anyone, they are better off with Windows or a Mac. If a good Linux video editor comes out then Linux Mint would be my ...

Re: Beat Microsoft Windows at its own game!

Hi, I am now very close to switching my Windows machine off and replacing it with my new machine with Mint 6. I will now admit that I actually work in the world of IT, my area of expertise being commercial databases, Oracle and DB2. One thing over the last few years that I have noticed is the slow ...
